Kona Beer is #9 Craft Beer in US
#1
I didn't realize the Kona Brewing Company sells as much beer across the US as they do, they're #9 in the country (Craft Beer catagory).
I always liked their Fire Rock Ale, but had no idea how many other varieties they brewed such as "Duke's Blonde Ale." I've never even seen that one in stores. Anyone know who in Hilo carries the full line?

Scroll down the 'Craft Beer' section for the statistics.

Kona Brew has nice beers and the location in Kona brews what is consumed at the restaurant. The rest is made on the mainland. Most likely local beer drinkers know this already.

I have absolutely no connection with the company but Hilo has a fine craft beer brewery, Hawaii Nui Brewing (aka Mehana). They operate a friendly little store selling their products, some shirts and gift items. And for locavores, it is all made right here in Hilo. They have struggled a bit and have new ownership as of about 6 months ago but are up and running. Support Local Suds!

Ticks me off that most of the folks I know on the mainland think all of Kona brewing company beer is made in Hawaii when almost none of it is.

We used to get special kegs of Longboard Lager (high alcohol content) for about $125 per full size keg from one of the guys at Kona Brewing Co, back when they first started up. (1996)
The beer was brewed in Kona.

One big stein and you felt it... 2 steins and you'd better not be driving. Wink

that Washington/Oregon/New Hampshire made beer called Kona Brewing Co. is #9 in Sales, not #9 Best beer...

the hotbed for Best Craft Beers in country is Sonoma County in NorCal ie Lagunitas in Petaluma, Russian River Brewing Co in Santa Rose (#1 beer in country a couple years back with 'Pliny the Elder' Pliny the Younger' etc.)

SoCo is well known for their wine too... far more quality wines and more acres of grapes than neighboring Napa Co.

back in late 90s I used to go to Russian River Brewing Co. pub on 4th Street in SR 2-3 times a week for a few pints and live music, and also was a ringer on the Lagunitas softball team for about 5 years in late 90's... so both are well known to me Smile

Kona Brew is a great mainland success story, but it's unfortunate that selling the Hawaii name without Hawaii involvement is still allowed.
