Hello again!
As you know I purchased a home in Paauilo, Mauka 2000 ft elev. I drive a classic Car I plan on bringing with me to the island. It is a 1978 Citroen 2CV. The frame has been Galvanized, she's in great shape. (though she's not a "hangar queen" as we would call her in aviation, she's a daily driver and has her share of dings)
The question is, how do you think a classic car like her will do at 2K in Hamakua with occasional runs to Hilo/Kona? I was thinking a power washer (we have tons of catchment) and detailing now and then and I should be fine.

There is a park ranger up at the Volcano that drives an old red Citroen. When he is there, the car has lot of pix taken of it!

I think she would last longer if you drive her gently and don't take her to Kona or Hilo much at all.
Whatever way you go to Kona, you are looking at a pretty good grade that can be demanding. Not a grade issue going to Hilo, but it's long.
Not sure catchment water is ideal for washing, fairly acidic.
If you are going to have a workhorse vehicle to drive most of the time, sounds fine.
Do you have a garage?

Hey,
Yes I have a 95' Geo Tracker as the daily driver already on island. I would only bring the 2CV to "town" for special shindigs. And you are right about the drive to Kona. Petite Blu' (her name) will do 65 all day long.....just not uphill. Can't wait to meet the other 2CV!

The issues that you need to consider are: who on the island will be competent to work on it, where will the parts come from in what time frame and at what cost. I would check those issues out first. Getting simple things like grandfather's clocks simply cleaned is nearly impossible. Keeping an older car going with no dealer, expertise or parts could be really tough.

if it's a VW engine ... would be pretty easy to find parts. There is always ebay and other dealers that will ship parts. Might be a few extra bucks, but doable.

The engine is dead easy, there are 3 fuses, she's air cooled and carbeurated, Anyone who can wrench on a bug can wrench on a 2CV. Just have to pay to have em shipped, and my hubby flies freight.
