ATV's. What do you think?

I think recreational ATVs are a big negative here and do not contribute to the Hawaiian lifestyle or environment in any way.

some are quieter - others are hot rods ...each have their place ...

I see the ones on the larger lots used more as a farm tool rather than an off road vehicle or audio terror tool

the folks in Waipio Valley seem to have a good harmonious use for them - one less pick up in the valley and they seem to be very handy in mending the fences

they are great at 20 - at 50mph down the middle of the street - maybe not so much

as far as dangerous drivers in odd vehicles - those little powered grocery carts ....now there is an issue waiting to be confronted and regulated - grin

In Ca the ATV is considered an " off road vehicle" and impossible to register as a "motor vehicle legal for streets and highways". "Private" subdivisions mean you are responsible for the maintenance of the road and infrastructure financially, but all state motor vehicle rules apply. Police usually don't enforce except what they see on a "drive thru", but usually mind their own business unless called. Riding lawn mowers rule! (Too low of horsepower to be recognized), the "sleepers" of the budget wise

The question should be, is that neighborly to the other fractional owners who don't want to hear them roaring by at 200 decibels going 45 MPH over the speed limit? While I'm sure that everybody here rides them responsibly, every single ATV rider I've seen on "private" roads has been doing something dangerous, loud, and stupid.

Such a CC&R would only be binding upon the landowners of that subdivision.

Unless the State refuses to issue such registration.

A 4 stroke Honda TRX 400 has a great muffler and is a lot more quiet than many of the rice-burner racers you hear farting around the streets of Hilo.

like Rene pointed out, you can have an 8 year old drive an ATV on all 77 miles of roads in Hawaiian Acres (and they often do too) because it is all private roads we all (who live here) own a piece of ..
thats the only place Ive seen ATVs... is in Hawaiian Acres, on OUR privately owned roads!

on the hwys or in mid Hilo would be a different story...
