Hawaiian hoary bats

anybody ever build bat houses for the bats here? If so, what was the results? What elevation have they been seen? I'm at 125' elevation in HPP and would like to set up some bat houses to entice them onto my property to help with the mosquitoes.

From the talks I have been to, the Hoary bat is not a bat house kinda bat...There is a nice population by HIlo High School, you can stand around there track, esp during termite swarm times & see them diving around the track lights.

I've seen bats at the Waimea ballpark, flying in the lights catching bugs, so at least up to 3000 feet elevation.

Habitat & Behavior:
Bats are found primarily from sea level to 2,288 m (7,500 ft), although they have been observed near the island's summits above 3,963 m (13,000 ft). Royall, I live on the Hilo side of your street and have the Hoary Bats on or near our property going back to 98. Though it is an invasive plant I've read that the bats may be attracted to the Heliconia plant. The previous property owner had choke Heliconia on the property to which I've tried to remove but, I am always finding new shoots from time to time. Though now with all the clear cut grubbing of new homes in our area through the years I have noticed a significant drop in sightings.

If you're driving through Manuka in South Kona at dusk you can almost always see them flying through the road corridor between the tall trees.
