Recycle WHY??. or why not?
#11
I think it may be time to start barging it or super ferrying all this waste out to sea(ocean) and start building another island from sea level. Maybe some islands have already been cremated by our military forces(nuked). Good for our military good for me. Really we are a bunch of consuming parasites to this planet who only wants to rape this planets minerals and fill the holes with garbage. Hard to believe my practices or non-recycling practices would really make any difference what so ever. This may not be the best attitude for our times, so I will sit back and see what others think about the importance of recycling?. This land fill you are referring to in Hilo is the same one that has been overused and jammed for a decade or two now??.

@gypsy69

I really think you could care less about my viewpoint, or any other viewpoints about recycling.

It's clear to me that whatever anyone could explain to you about what recycling has done, is currently doing, or could be for the future, its just to goddamned inconvenient for you.

Life must really be a bitch for you hey?

I mean having to drive all the way to Hilo to buy all the stuff you don't think matters if you recycle must really be a big pain in the ass for you.

Quite frankly, I think you are a Troll.

As islands as a whole, Koho'olawe comes to mind, only because the Military abused the poor thing. Unusable Government land. Why do you think the Cruise Ships stop here? It's not only Tourii they're dropping off! Whatever port tariff is cheapest on dump fees gets it. Garbage is everywhere, look at "plastic Island, and the stuff still drifting from Japan's earthquake. That's why I do my part best I can from learning from my Granny who raised three kids in the Depression. Don't waste nothin'! Thank you Gypsy for starting this post.

Are you a human being, or a human doing?

Bath mats and concrete aggregate sounds like precisely the kind of "sustainability research" this place needs...

I have three words garbage island, bpa.

Thats why you should recycle, whether anything actually gets recycled in this country is another story.

I think Gypsy is feeling that recycling here is inconvenient. Hauling my trash to the dump is a real PIA. I do recycle, but if the city made it more convenient then it would be great.

Why recycle? Because it's the right thing to do. Why does it have to be more complicated than that?
I've really tried to make a conscious effort to reduce my trash as much as possible, but I know I can do even better. I use 5 gallon potting containers for my recyclables. I compost nearly all my paper and paperboard/cardboard products now. I started collecting corrugated cardboard for weed mat. I try not to buy a whole lot of prepackaged things. That is one of the big problems with our waste. I mean, how many times does something have to be packaged. Often times, there is a package inside of a package inside of package. Ridiculously wasteful.
As far as recycling being inconvenient, do it when you're already traveling in that direction. You don't have to make a special trip into town just for recycling. Do it when you're already going that way.

First off I recycle.
BUT, as I have posted numerous times before, I work for a major business in Hilo, that throws out tons of items that could be recycled, ie; bikes, items with lots of hard plastic,
And absolutely tons of plastic, in many forms.
While we are all running around recycling and putting forth our efforts, these companies are just throwing the stuff out, and then Guess What, more of the same stuff comes in on the next delivery, to be sold, returned and thrown in the dumpster.

You know what is really inconvenient? losing our ocean to bpa and plastic contamination. That means no more ahi to eat folks.

You can't have your plastic and ahi too.

We sort all of our recyclables, trash and green waste. The drive to the transfer station costs us way less in gas then Waste Management used to charge us to pick up our waste on the mainland. RECYCLE YOUR CRAP. PLEASE.
