What about Costco?

Call local tire dealers to check on prices for your size tires.
Last week a friend of ours needed new tires for the toyota to pass the safety check. Prices quoted ranged from reasonable to $600 plus for 4 tires. R&J had the cheapest price, they installed the tires and did the safety check. https://my.datasphere.com/biz/rg_tire_ce...855-818394

Tire prices are negotiable at all of the local places.
Locally, I like R&G, barring that, I look at amazon.com for a tire with Prime, free shipping, then any local place will install them for you. Be sure to get a tire that is highly rated for "wet" conditions. We are in Puna... Also pay attention to the UTQG rating - which is an indicator of how long the tire may last. Getting the absolute cheapest tire initially may be much more expensive in the long term if it wears out quickly.

$61 on Amazon prime with free shipping. I think Curlees will put them on for a few dollars. As far as I know, Costco has the cheapest tires on the island, but usually when I need tires its more of an emergency than a 200 mile RT or waiting on amazon can handle. I have got tires at Lex Brodies in the past. Check their web site for specials.

apples and oranges - stamped on every tire are three items of important data
wear, heat resistance and traction ratings heat and traction get a letter grade of a,b,c tread wear gets a number 100 being the base line - a 200 rating means the tire will get twice the distance a 100 will In puna I would think traction and tread wear more important than heat resistance (high speed generates heat) http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTreadwear.dos I like the all terrain ttread styles - hydroplaning not a good idea coming down 11 at 55 on a rainy day - cheap tires may not always be good value in an environment of 100 plus inches of rain per year

Another vote for Costco, hard to be their replacement policy.
Keep a good spare to run 'till you get back over. aloha, pog

Thanks for all the replies. I now have a tire education. I tried R & G - no truck tires available, only passenger - 4 ply. I currently don't have a Costco membership. Amazon seems the best w/ Curlee's $20 install. 1 more call to Sears ought to do it. Thanks again, PunaWebbers.
