Return of Superferry?
#1
Mufi Hanneman has talked about bringing back the Superferry. Every local person I spoke to loved it. I talk to myself a lot and I told myself I loved it too. I did hear that all 17 Hanalei Cali transplants are ready to block the ferry at Nawiwili on Kauai. I would love to have it call on Hilo. We were not here when the whole fiasco went down so my question is, does the island of Hawaii want the Superferry?

I was waiting for the service to be extended to the Big Island with bated breath the first go around.

It would be a boon to personal travel (and provide meaningful competition) and also to our farmers and other producers on the island who would have another way to get their product to Statewide markets.

Of all things to oppose this is one of the more difficult to understand. Whatever may be transported on a Super Ferry, after all, is already being transported by some other means. As to hitting whales, etc - with all the ocean traffic already in place this is a real stretch of an argument.

The ferry died due to Lingle administration not following the law, not any inherent problem with the ferry itself. It needed an EIS but they couldn't be bothered. It could work if we do it right. Stop trying to blame environmentalists for this stupid error.

Planes are by far one of the most damaging modes of transportation to our environment. They literally apply exhaust fumes directly to the upper atmosphere. People go on and on about chemtrails but jet exhaust is pretty freeking bad on it's own. It rips away at the ozone.

So yes boats please! Whales know when boats are coming. They are more conscious while sleeping than humans are while awake.

Wouldn't it be great to take your car to Oahu and go car or furniture shopping, and bring your purchase home the same day instead of waiting for it to be shipped?

Who on earth would oppose that? Um, shipping companies, airlines, sellers of bulky items...

What happened to SB 755 the bill Neil sponsored to suspend environmental reviews- a hostage of election year politics?

I wish the rest of Lingle's unilateral actions would suffer similar fates.

Starting with the energy policy.
