Hopefully change is going to be possible in the near future, and we might e able to reconfigure our own web page. i like the way this one it laid out. it is easy to navigate, and easy to join and post to. the real answer is to copy this success formular ourselves. meanwhile maybe we can just encourage people to keep in touch on here.

My internet has just been 'cut off' for 'copyright infringement'. basically because we have used something called 'bit torrent' to download films and t.v. programs. we live on the corner of F and 2. what are other people using for T.V. and internet connections? wildblue/excede cost $60 per month and the service was not great to start with. we use Verizon cell phone despite the fact that we cannot get a connection half the time. no other phone service works at all. we have hawaiian tel home phone but they cannot provide internet. what are my choices here? cable? satellite? different dish?

1) FB groups are safe. I belong to a few. One is for artists, another is for readers, etc. Members are people with similar interests, just like "hawaiian acres" would be a similar interest.

2) FB doesn't have my address, or my phone number, or my age, and they only have the town I live in bc I gave it to them. The worst info they are gathering from me is that I love old movies, have a bunch of geezer friends, love comics, and that I have a weird sense of humor. All clearly a danger to the republic.

3) Our service provider, Aloha Broadband, will kick you out if they catch you torrenting. They do this bc much of what is being torrented these days is copyrighted material (bc if it were available legally for download, they wouldn't have to torrent), and the ISPs don't want to be the middleman to nefarious goings-on (in case you're not familiar with how it works, torrenting is downloading little bits of video from a gazillion sources rather than one source. This is to get around copyrights infringement.) Bottom line: don't take the chance. Wait until you can download the file legally from a single source.

4) I love FB bc it keeps me in touch with old friends who, for all I would know without it, are dead. I like Twitter bc I can find fellow artists and see their work.

Social media will not know any more about you than you tell it.

Well things change all the time, especially technology, so I will research again what is available for my corner. Cable would be good. I would much rather simply pay to watch Telly but we have zero reception even using amplifiers. However they too have improved over the last year. Suggestions welcome.

Until recently, I was a partner in a company that did broadband access (rural mainland area) and we absolutely tried to block all bit torrent access. What it comes down to on shared broadband systems is that one or two people are able to "hog" massive amounts of the available bandwidth due to the manner in which the bit torrent sharing works. We had sent letters out to all customers, explaining how those apps worked and how it wasn't fair to the others. I would certainly side with Aloha Broadband on this issue.

Now, back to the regular complaining about everything Hawaiian Acres... [] Which as Kalakoa mentions, is quite ironic considering the lack of internet there to begin with.

Failure to properly manage the network is not bittorrent's fault.

Yes, sadly no one could think of their favorite thing about the acres so here is my #2 favorite thing: wild orchids. There are people that simply don't realize how wonderful and special they are. I have about five different varieties growing in my garden. None of the orchids here are endemic or indigenous but that doesn't make them less beautiful. We are so blessed.
