Adopt a Pothole on Road One
#1
One and a half tons of cold patch just got dumped next to the road across from pole 11. It's for anyone that feels ambitious enough to fix a pothole. It's not hard to do.

Here's how:
*Grab a flat shovel, a pick and one or more 5 gallon buckets. A five gallon bucket will fill an average sized pothole.
*Get the material. If the cold patch feels hard you can break it up with a pick to bring it back to life.
*Find a pothole. That shouldn't be hard. Fill the pothole with gravel from the side of the road up to about 2" from the top. Put no more than 2" of cold patch over the gravel. It never fully hardens and if you put more than 2" it will end up cratering.
* Drive over it a couple of times to pack it in.
*Move down the road and repeat.

This material is intended for One Road pavement only. Please respect.

wow peter,,, that's the way to do it,,,,,material easy to get to and any wuss could patch their own frontage,,, wow,,, like magic ,, has anyone told of this magic to mimosa and Gladys ?
thanks for this post peter finally a live brain,,,welcome

and I agree that some of the cost of materials should fall partly on road corp,,,,, I feel that all the prop owners along rd 1 should also pitch a separate fee each year ,, add up the developed lots with rd 1 frontage,,,,divide cost of yearly gravel pile refills between road corp and owners,,, this would make their road access top notch and promote other owners to do the same on their roads

Thank you Peter.

MC..........I agree that road 1 residents should pitch in to keep the road passable.
Although disagree that they should carry a larger financial burden for it.
Many other vehicles other than road 1 residents, to include large flat beds, large trucks and heavy equipment use this road as well. Why should the residents which live or own property there pay more, especially if they are doing the repairs and pay the largest portion of road fees already ?

ok ,, lets see if I can spell this out for those brain dead among us,,,,, everyone that buys a lot in our subdivision ,, has a need for heavy equipment and large trucks to deliver their materials,, just like we all did when we came ,,, its not like these vehicles are taking a short cut thru rd 1 or anyroad for that matter , to get to somewhere else,,, the more people that come here,, the more dues are paid ,, the better the road gets ,, ect. the residents of rd 1 have seen and will see an increase in their property values because rd 1 is paved and smooth,,, everyone that pays their dues has a little invested in rd 1 even though they don't have frontage,,therefore the owners should pay a separate fee or donation whatever you like to call it because they get the daily use and value return because of their location. the fact that several of these good folk are patching the road and trying to maintain it is to be applauded and appreciated by all of us,,, and I say great work to them all every time I see them at it. pave road three from one end to the other and ill happily pay an extra fee,,,, who wouldn't ... Gladys wouldn't

Thank you Peter E.
Moose- as soon as you make fees mandatory the only people that suffer are those least able to pay. $100 is nothing unless you are on SSI. Neither is it $100 a year. if you are poor it is $100 NOW. Don't have $100 this week that you don't know what to do with? OK, next week then? No? What about the week after that? This is reality for most of the residents here. In fact, This is the reality for most people everywhere. Those who have tried to own their own home, whose interest rates shot through the roof, or lost jobs, retired, got sick, etc. now risk loosing all they ever had to the road committee??
So what's the solution? This is. A mix of volunteer actions and income. Involvement from the community. People are in fact remarkably generous given the opportunity. We should all be automatic members of The community association and donations should be encouraged. I think it is a marvelous idea to sell Internet access and there are other ways of raising revenue. The problem of the roads is not of our making. That has come as a result of inappropriate land sales. A housing estate with no infrastructure that is not even zoned as a housing estate. Not that I'm not grateful. All these estates seem to be suffering equally and there are even some that have also become the subject of court cases. All the time the conversations revolve around money instead of community responsibility and aloha we will continue with this blame game.

Personally........as brain dead as I am I am thinking that HARC needs to be dissolved.
They don't appear to have it together enough to uphold the responsibility to this community that they accepted by sitting on that board, volunteers or not. Therefor, this community should just consider taking care of their own roads if they don't want improvements it would then be their choice. I am pretty sure residents would rather keep the excessive fees you talk about and maintain the roads themselves. Things would get done. Dependence on this board is iffy as witnessed through their prior performance.
Ideally HACA should take back responsibility for the roads until that time I advocate the above solution.

road 1 ... owners should pay a separate fee or donation whatever

Meaning they should pay more because the frontage makes their lot worth more, same as with property taxes?

the responsibility to this community that they accepted by sitting on that board

They did exactly this -- for the "community of the HARC board" who enjoys the road upgrades funded by everyone who paid HARC dues.

I love the adopt-a-pothole idea! This kind of creative thinking and community involvement is just what we need.

How much of Road 1 is actually paved? 3 or 4 miles--doesn't the pavement stop before E? Out of all the roads in the entire subdivision, those 3 or 4 miles are sure getting a lot of attention.

If you charged folks living on Road 1 more, would you charge folks on county-maintained Road 8 less? And I live on the unpaved end of Road 1, does that mean I only have to pay half as much more than people on the paved end?

What we really need is toll boxes; use the road, pay a fee right then and there. Shouldn't cost more than several million dollars to get that going...

Makes adopt-a-pothole might look even more elegant!

If County was actively maintaining it ... and collecting higher property taxes ... maybe.

pete nice idea but i have already seen this patch in other places then the road . there is always abuse . i heard at the HARC meeting that they were going to pay an individual to put it down . now its dumped in a pile , and not overseen by anyone so a free for all can take place .
