Little Black Ants
#11
I clean everything with a spray of about one inch dawn dish soap, one third of the bottle with white vinegar, and the rest water. This doesn't kill them (I don't think) put it sure puts them off coming in and walking across things. Use this instead of all the kitchen/bathroom/window/floor cleaners. Not only does it cure the ant problem, at least in the house, it's loads cheaper and works just as well.

The real bonus with the WD40 is in the lubricating properties of silicone. Ants are bad enough, but squeaky ants, now that's a real problem.

Can keep you up all night[8D]

I believe Borax, Boraxo soap,Boric acid and Borate (termite treatment) are one in the same, Borate being the prime mineral. I use a Boraxo soap and water mix for bug spray around the house perimeter, works well. My measuring system is a handful of Boraxo soap into an old "foot" section of a pair of nylons, tie into a knot and drop into a small pump sprayer filled with water. This will keep the unabsorbed granules from clogging the sprayer. Shake the mix up thoroughly and spray away. Spray the foundation posts good, as it also deters termites. I usually try to spray just after the heavy winter rains, and then again just before winter if needed. Windex and WD40 work well in an emergency, as both eliminate the "scent trail" the scouts leave to the food source.

WD40 is great for wasps. Works amazingly fast. Never tried it on ants.

Killing the individual visible ants is just killing the soldiers. When the queen senses her soldiers are being cut down, she increases reproduction, although there is the slight lag when people think the ants are gone. If she senses a threat to herself directly, she will hatch winged princesses to start new hives. So, it's important to get the loaded bait taken into the nest and before the queen recognizes it. The little sugar ants recognize Amdro now and will avoid it completely. There is a new fipronil bait that seems to work well. The dual bait traps work well with fire ants. Both appear to kill the nests completely.

All these invasives are coming in potted plants, very few getting by produce inspection. They are coming here because the soil can't be inspected 100%, and there are points of origin that aren't running boiling water through the roots. The importation of all kinds of strange plants from some of the most infected areas on the planet can't be held back. Just a matter of time, or do something about imported potted plants fast, like require the pot be wrapped to the stem with a fumigation cover or require a stamp from the origin point that boiling water was poured through the pot.

More like this one. Actually, this is a newer 4 bait one that I haven't tried out, because the dual bait worked several months ago. Main thing is the big label says Kills Colony.

The trick is get a line of ants leading back to the nest. This isn't hard, just take a paper plate and put honey, sugar, rotten fruit on it. This is for fire ants that are out in the yard. Find the general area of the nest and put these baits around it with little rocks to hold them down. They generally won't go searching for the bait but if it's in a pheromone path, they will climb around and through it. Some will start taking some of the bait. It takes a few weeks, they gradually disappear until one day, they are all gone.

I read mixing jelly and boric acid will kill them the best, unfortunately Home Depot was all out of it and it was on back order.

Got some ant traps and some boric type tablets that might work, I will report back !

I ordered the Advance Dual Bait and will let everybody know how it works against LFA. The Raid product had 23 one star reviews and 10 other reviews, so I passed on it this time.

Dawn Dish soap ( liquid ) works great on ants ,including LFA.
After the home is final-ed and no more inspectors ,we paint used crank case oil on the pier blocks and posts under the structures, this stops all bugs from entering the structure .Keeping shrubbery away from structures also helps tremendously .
We shy away from toxic poisons cause they may do the trick but may be harmful to plants, chickens and children, along with pets.
For inside the hale ,Dawn dish wash soap seems to work the best ,we do not have a inside the home bug issue but they do a wonderful job of picking up crumbs we may of missed.
