Yes, we've stopped by there a few times after a beach day at Hapuna and they're very good, at least the Ahi burger I usually order is very good. Once the fries were super greasy and unedible and the shakes are good, but small for the $6 price.

Been passing that up lately for Big Island Brew Haus instead. Good Mexican food (hard to find on Big Island) and micro brewery.

My girlfriend and I stopped there ONCE. Very sloooooow service and SBH is right in saying the fries were inedible. I had a hamburger and GF had a fish burger.. I didn't like mine at all. GF said hers was "OK"... The milkshake (strawberry) was the best I've had in a long time but expensive. I'll not go back again.

Before they closed, Kalapana Village Cafe had our favorite burgers, but since then, we usually like Cronies in Hilo for burgers, with their onion rings on the side. They also have AWESOME Jalapeno/Coconut glazed ribs....just FYI..

Despite the good food, I stopped going to Hilo Burger Joint after getting "bad service" (as in very very very slow) more than once. Have they gotten that part working again?

I have gotten consistently good service at Hilo Burger Joint with one huge exception a few months ago. Not fancy service, or even very polished service, but friendly and fast, even if maybe a little sloppy. If you are alone and sit at the bar you get great service and even better conversation, which I learned when I used to have meetings in Hilo that went through dinner time.

Only been to the Hilo Burger Joint twice so not a reliable sample size. I had good service the first time and slow/horrible service the second time. (It probably just depends on the time of day and how crowded they are.) The burgers were okay but nothing to write home about. I'll never go back, and why should I, as the best burger on the island is the punafish burger.

my favorite burger is the one I make with our home-grown, Puna-pastured beef.
