Hi i've been watching and learning all I can before I make my move to the B.I.
Is their anyone out here that has any positive experience's living in a yurt, My partner and I would like to be off the grid with no mortgage payements until we our both established work wise, to get a construction loan to build a house, but would like to live on our piece of land for a year to really get to know the land, drainage, shade, sun ect. winds...
So far all I have heard is from people who decided not to do the yurt, and would like to talk to those who have actually made it happen for them.. Thanks Craig soon to be leaving this FROZEN tundra called Idaho....[

I know some people that own yurts and live in them. Others that have yurts on their property for guests. One of them (my friends in Kalapana Sea View), I haven't talked to for a while, but they'd probably be willing to share some experiences. The others are good friends and I know they can tell you more.
P.S. Did you get the information about the veterinarians that I emailed yesterday?

There are more structures than a yurt to live in while building your house. Some friends of mine had a two story purple bus they lived in while building their house. They had it fixed up real nice and it was quite festive looking. You don't have to worry much about heating or air conditioning, mostly keeping the rain off and the bugs out.

thanks john I did get the info on the vet. As Much as it is going to break our hearts we are leading towards not brining the horse's but cant live without our dogs...

hey I am open to other altenative housing, althoug I am a creature of habit I like running water elec, internet hookup,My mane thinking of a yurt is that it would br brand new no mortgage payements, and I am not fixing someone else's mess,I want time to enjoy ang get to know the island before i have to start working 60 hours a week again..lol to pay for the new house to build..

Hey, I was just asking my friend who's son has a yurt in Orchidland how the yurt was and she said they are thinking of selling the property and yurt since her son is getting a job up at the other end of the island. They may even finance since apparently that is a difficulty when buying yurts. She said you could email her at her farm address of mauiviewfarms@yahoo.com to ask yurt questions. She also has a ten acre coffee farm for sale, too, although that doesn't have a yurt on it.
