I am going to do the same. One thing I did not like (and this is a rumor although I think I saw it here on PW and in the article linked above) is that Maddie, right after the election last time, planned on running before she ever knew how Greggor was going to proceed (he had been in office 2 months at most).
That is a knee-jerk reaction in my book and does not show a willingness to take the high road and see where he lead us before saying he wouldnt work.

It's not a rumor, Cat. Madie announced a few weeks after Greggor took office. It was on Big Island Chronicle if you want to look it up.

first, in response to your question, what Council member(s) satisfied me
in the last 20 years?
Pilago, Ford, Hoffman, both Jacobsons, on the change/ideological side,
Yashimoto on the traditionalist/clientalistic side.
The political system at a local level is delivery of services and responsible
current and future policies.
The general public in Hawai'i County has two general approaches to government and political representation:
1) those who look at political representatives as someone who fixes things on a personal,
non-political, traditional level of individual and family ties for instance.
2) those who see ideology and political positions and programs as primary determinants for
a political representative.
Thinking out loud and speculating on a forum like this can cause some worthwhile discussions.
Just don't give an observer a hard time.

I attended all the candidate forums for Puna, District 4 and 5 so far. After hearing the candidates multiple times and recording their responses, I am supporting Dr. Roy Lozano for District 4 and Frances Pueo for District 5.
Yes, I know I cannot vote in both districts but these are my choices.
For State rep, Joy S. seems to be qualified.
I will be posting some of the links to the youtube recordings I uploaded in case anyone is interested. I know Occupy Hawaii has posted in entirety, but my vids are by topic.

Thanks for the links. Wasn't able to make the meeting but will definitely see what the Senator and ex-mayor think.
One of the problems with our highly centralized form of government here in Hawaii is that there are so few opportunities for marginal candidates to run for lower level positions. In some municipalities dog-catcher is a job you have to run for and I can think of some current and past Puna candidates who I would rather elect for such a position.
On another thread Sativa points out how she and RJ were able to kick some non-profits out of the old police station and save 20 grand or so. This to me is and example of very local thinking and perhaps a little too much micromanagement because the election at hand is for County councilor who is supposed to me overseeing a roughly 400 million dollar budget. 20 grand is small peanuts in comparison and personally I would like to see someone involved in the bigger picture and asking questions about the larger line item expenses like police coverage, lawyer costs and lawsuit settlements than worrying about minutia.

Why all this hate for Ruderman?
Constituents (lawyers, lobbyists) submit legislation through representatives all the time, and usually for much higher stakes.
As noted above, while we're arguing about THOUSANDS of dollars, the State and Federal government are stealing BILLIONS from us....

You'd figure that the public would be glad to have some reps
that would actually listen to them and do legislation w/o
having to be paid beyond their salaries and expenses as
elected reps.
I'm not always happy with Ruderman, but at least to this moment he seems to
listen to his constituents.
