Where did the sun go?
#11
You all said it rains alot in Puna. I'm glad to hear this is is not normal. Not looking forward to taking the crappy rental car back tomorrow and only having the motercycle to get around on. I guess it is a dry crappy rental car. OMG the sun came out just now well it's gone now but the rain has slowed. It's still beautiful here and I'm glad I came. Oh there was just another 10 seconds of sun. You getting those little intervals of Sun up the hill there Gypsy

Getting the clouds and humidity, some dry lightning in the hills in Ca, but no watta! It's also so hot it's more like AAAGH!! Get away from me, your too hot! Golly I miss what you guys have as you describe Birchl. Rain has never slowed me much, always something to do, including emergency "flow diversion" projects as well! As for fun, set up a "slip and slide" using heavy gauge plastic sheeting down the lawn? Just lather up the kids and yourselves in the rain, and let it rip! For music, how about John Fogarty's " who'll stop the rain" or Burt Baccarach's "raindrops keep falling on my head" as a start, make it a party!

FJ - Had to smile...as those sun breaks are THE thing!

Even when we have some super long rain spells (2006 Feb/Mar period with 40 days of rain, inc a 20" day come to mind) almost every day there will be SOME sun, maybe just a peek here & there, but just enough to get you through!

My DH found that having full rain gear was essential on the East side... he did find some that actually did breathe fairly well, so that he was not an oyster after his rides! 'course there are many riders here that take the other route & do not wear any leathers, but we have seen too many street/skin donations... and his old bike was involved in an ucky one, even WITH protection!

ADDED: With this being another political season, am adding this reminder to all drivers, but esp. to bike riders of the dangers of sign wavers (bottom page 2 for the bikers)

I love the rain.

It is cleansing. It rejuvenates me and makes me tranquil and relaxed. Maybe because I am a Pisces(fish) and love water.

I cant wait for my outdoor shower in the new place !

7.5 inches so far for July vs less than that for June-August last year here in Seaview. It's nice to have a full tank and not have to water for hours everyday.

Woke up this morning @ about 5:30 to a torrential rain.
Looked out at my catchment tank to see how much water was coming out of the overflow pipe.
It was gushing.
Plus, for the first time, I saw it actually coming out from under the edge of the tank's cover.
It was overflowing the side of the tank.
That kinda worries me, the possibility of undermining the tank.

That is worrisome, I would investigate why the overflow wasn't keeping up.

The rain was torrential.
It went on fairly steady for 1/2 to 3/4 of an hour after I woke up.
I'm a bit hard of hearing.
Who knows how long it took for the noise to wake me up.
The roof gutters were overflowing.
That's why I looked at the tank's overflow pipe.
The water coming out of it was very reasonable for a 3" gravity fed pipe.
It was just too much water going into the tank too fast.
I don't think a 4" outlet pipe would have kept up either.
But I'm still worried about the potential for the tank to be undermined.

just install another overflow pipe. Pretty cheap and easy. I would imagine it would keep up with two 2" over flow pipes go for 3". Smile

Would suck to wake up to 10K gallons of water on the ground that could have been avoided.

I like the rain. Keeps the house cool. It's the windless / HOT Muggy days that I don't like.

Good idea.
I think two 4" overflow pipes would do the job along with a thick layer of cinders covering the ground at the edge's overflow location.

It is a 10k tank, plus less than 100' from and at a slightly higher elevation than the house on a slab.
Gives reality to the word flood.
