hate van in hilo
#51
I have no problem ignoring the van (I am not a Christian and tend to ignore things with quotes from the Bible plastered all over), but I don't think it is cool to park it right by the kids' playground. Putting abortion in the face of seven year olds, teaching hate and fear of others to young children is sad. There are other locations for proselytizing than the main playground in town, so his choice to inflict that on our youth does not speak well of his concern for the community.

Have no problem with him expressing his ideas even though I find any hate language distasteful. Do something to him? That is getting caught up in the hate.

I agree that it may not be the most appropriate place and I am not intentionally advocating for this person. Although what dose bother me is that individuals sometimes evolve into the same type of behavior they hate without ever noticing it. I am big on personal integrity and self awareness opposed to picking up a torch and pitch fork.

Well the simplest solution for the "parking by the park" concern is to lobby to have the parking time limits bordering the park changed from 8 hour parking to 1 or 2 hour parking.

If an organized group of folks would get to the park early in the morning, park there he will have to find another place to spread his hatred.

Oh, I'm sure he has a right to show his signs at the park. Just like the American Nazi party has a right to exist and spew their BS. I've never said a word to him, and I don't intend to. But with our Supreme Court's latest decisions on corporations and religions and political donations such, even our first amendment rights may be on shaky ground. Nothing surprises me any more.

He was not there today, Wednesday, 10 am to 1pm-ish while I was in town. I was very surprised, as he's always, always there. I have to say it was very refreshing not to encounter the presence of his negative, hateful energy.

I propose that we all send Love and Light to the park, the children and all who encounter him, and yes, even to the lunatic himself. All thoughts have energy and energy is not static. Perhaps a simple thought such as, "may the situation improve there". It is amazing how powerful something so simple can be. (and I imagine this idea may seem as a different type of lunacy to some! He was parked on the Gay Pride parade route, and being belligerent. Not sitting quietly like he usually does.
