Campaign ethics

I don't expect to convince anyone that doesn't like Tiffany to support her. No one can deny that she's emotional and tenacious though. I personally think that she made a mistake in the zoning thing in the past. If she learns from it does that make her flexible and responsive? or hypocritical? It depends on your preconceived opinion of her.

She will win though(IMO), because she's the only candidate who has been actively involved in positive change for Puna. That's why the Stephens Media paper (with no great love for Tiff) featured an article about her. What exactly are they to write about anyone else? RJ's anti Vaccine saga? Or her confrontation with Obama's security detail? Does RJ even want these skeletons dragged out of her closet?

What are they to write about ANY of the other candidates? I'm waiting. In another thread I listed examples of some of Tiff's accomplishments and asked for some examples of other candidates achievements. No one responded with anything positive about another candidate. I'm waiting.

Hate all you want, but get used to her. She's going to represent, and do so more effectively than our past council people.

From afar it's hard to tell who, if anyone, isn't in the "Tinfoil Brigade". Other than what appears to be a statement professing actual "Pele worship" are there any others with unsettling beliefs, as in strange cults or a dependence on alien messages or astrology. How many remember the scandal when it was learned that Nancy Reagan started consulting an astrologer after her hubby got shot? Probably not too many of you I'd bet.

Why is Pele worship any more unsettling than say, Catholicism?

And; Is religion the main reason for supporting/shunning a candidate?

1) Obviously it isn't for everyone. Perhaps even most, at least in Puna.

2) Nope but it's included in my decisions.

I certainly don't want someone consulting the stars and planets before making a decision that effects me. And I darn sure wouldn't want someone who sees flying saucers everywhere or thinks hopping while sitting cross legged is flying.

In this day and age, IMHO, evaluating a candidates craziness is valid element of consideration.

Tiff called BS on Kathy, and had the full support of Brittany's family, the police, and all of the real evidence.

Kathy has become Tiffany's grammar cop and chief antagonist ever since.

Tiff is by no means perfect, but has far more public experience and credibility than the Tinfoil Brigade that's running in District 5. Any comments by Kathy need to be seen in the context of her and Tiffany's history.
I never put forth a Hawaiian Kalapana Mafia theory. Others did, I did not, EVER. I questioned the conclusions of the police, which is not the same thing. I have absolutely no investment in the Kalapana murder mystery and who was right or wrong. The ONLY issue I have with Tiffany over that was that she displayed an arrogance in saying she had the answer and everyone else must stop talking.

She did it to a bunch of people, not solely to me. My objection is to the arrogance of her censorship, after she had built viewers and ad sponsorship on the whole affair for months. She profited financially from the news story, while everyone else talking about it was only interested in the truth. I personally felt and still do feel a lot of sympathy for Bo's parents and sisters in conjunction with sympathy for Brittany's family, and that is where I was coming from.

When Bo's family became silent, I became silent. When they were asking for people to listen to them, I supported that. Their son was gone, and the police did not even notify them they believed it was his body they had found, and did not even give the parents a copy of the "suicide and confession" notebook. I found that heartless, and I still do. That's where I'm at with the Brittany and Bo investigation. I wasn't seeking any kind of laurels as an investigator.

You don't know anything about my relationship with Tiffany, so you should stop speculating about it. It honestly wasn't much of a relationship. There was no big emotional component that would justify all this talk about me being angry at her or jealous. There was enough observation on my part that my idea of her as a great role model went downhill, but that is because I started out buying into her image of herself, and eventually I just saw what was really there -- and the two didn't match up.

There are numerous other people on this forum alone who no longer buy into the version that she is selling. If I were the only one, I would not say anything, but I see very well that other people have experienced the same thing.

What I will say about Tiffany, in her defense, is I believe she is honestly blind to a whole lot of what she does. Therefore it genuinely hurts her when people don't worship her program to "manifest" (from the article) herself as community leader and savior. For any pain it causes for her to hear opposition, I am sorry, because I don't like to cause pain. But if no one speaks, and she wins, I am convinced she will crash and burn as she does not have the inner strength to deal with criticism and opposition.

In response to snorkel's question about vaccination, I say nothing because I am on the fence in my opinion.

I don't want the world to go back to plagues of diseases killing children. I vaccinated my children, and my grandson was vaccinated. However, it is undeniable that my grandson was one of the sweetest natured people on the planet, and the best behaved, and that he changed after his vaccinations. He became a child with significant behavior problems, developed some form of autism, and is not even recognizable as the child he used to be about half the time.

So ... I don't know. There is no way to know if the causation was there, but the fact that the change was post-vaccination series inundation is there. His uncle, my older son, was one who had to take him for the series, and he was adamantly opposed to taking part in it. It broke his heart to do it when he believes that vaccinations cause these problems, and then what he had feared ... happened.

The reason for the article is that the writer use to work for Tiffany and wrote for The Big Island Chronicle. Don't you see something strange with this and the fact there most likely there was some friendly persuasion. In fact, the Editor got her hand slapped for its publication. WRT the other candidates, they all have interesting life stories to tell but they just don't have that inside track that Tiffany used.

Oh, please tell us what positive changes she has made for Puna. I don't think that publishing the BIC can be considered a positive change. In the 15 years I have been in Puna, I can't remember seeing or hearing anything about contributions to Puna by Tiffany.

I don't find it unsettling at all in a person who is Hawaiian of birth, who was raised in the system of worship.

Conversion to another faith is something I can respect, but sometimes it can indicate a need to "find" oneself that results in taking on something that you're not really part of culturally.

Tiffany is very vocal and out front that she is on a journey to find herself. I don't criticize the journey, but I personally feel that representing your community in government is something you take on AFTER you have passed the stage of life where your big concern is finding yourself. In other words, when you have matured.

As for whether religion (such as Catholicism) is a reason for supporting or shunning a candidate -- snorkle, sometimes I shake my head. Are you really not aware of the massive opposition to electing JFK on the basis that he was Catholic? Hello, welcome to the history of politics. Religion has been one of the key elements in determining the rise and fall of nations and government on this planet. Why do you think the Founders of our Constitution included separation of church and state?

Bump. She isn't ready. And if she wins, she'll find that out in a hurry and it won't be fun for her.
