Dang Ted, sounds like you have some gender issues.

Not care for women much either eh Ted?

As usual your assumptions are incorrect. If you feel you can raise the bar, then by all means, why don't you step up and do it?

Snorkel, & AM, as a wahine, I agree with pahoated on this one, thus, not a gender issue, IMO.

This woman does provide a service the County should frankly be providing (ie. Live Council meetings, committee meetings, etc.). However, she is confrontational, rude, and lacks basic people skills.

As an aside, she is running for Council District 2.

Hmm. Is that anything like creating a school (or farmers' market) when those services really "should" be provided by the County and/or State?

No, it is like Punatic a-hole' defending Punatic a-hole'. The women are identified because they are women, there are no men practicing this bizarre form of guerrilla journalism. There are guys with video cameras but I have never seen any of them shove them into peoples' faces, demanding agreement with whatever position they think they are holding. And this is squarely localized in Puna. This rude behavior is also only defended in Puna, with the strangely contradictory view that is associated with aloha.

Quote Ted;
"I also don't like the "in-your-face" hobby journalism these women around Pahoa are engaging in."

" Also, these hot-button topics are being presented by these women, who self proclaim they are the community leaders, as representative of the community interests."

Maybe it's his excessive use of the adjectives "these women".

I haven't seen him write; "Those men"; Ruderman and their ilk.

"...made it happen by writing a well crafted resolution that passed the scrutiny of the legislative research branch..."

When it is done by one of your cohorts, you consider it legitimate legislation and a point worthy of championing, but when done by someone else you consider it special interest and knowingly file a false ethics complaint.

Interesting.

Snorkle quote:
"I only know what I read here and in Tiffany's blog; (A community resource used by you, by the way)"

How can Tiffany's blog be considered a "community resource" when Tiffany marginalizes or boots people out of her "living room" as she calls it who don't agree with her or her cronies? As can be reflected by the thread on Tiffany Hunt just go back and read it and see how many negative comments or horror stories have been made about her mean spirited demeanor. I suspect that "Ken" is Tiffany. On Tiffany's contribution list I see no Ken or the description he uses for himself as giving her even $20. Why hasen't Ken made a contribution to her campaign? He just always defends Tiffany and then disappears?

Also I would like to address "the Roast" Tiffany put on July 18th. It got so out of hand that she accused Paleka of not even being Hawaiian and imitated RJ and Kathy H with her comedian mc. Sure she can do her best to be the worst! But that is what I expect from a candidate who accepts $500 from a geothermal company that is trying to move into Hawai'i. Just think about it folks.

hi Sativa, Ken is not Tiffany. I know that because Ken was a regular poster on Puna Online at a time when Tiffany had no access to that site. If she had been a member under any name, she wouldn't have needed to demand access as she did.

Ken is a username, not his real name, so you wouldn't see it. (I don't know who he is.)

When Tiffany's topic began here, I was hoping that Tiffany would come on Punaweb and discuss criticisms, and prove she had what it takes to be a good candidate. A good candidate listens to criticism and responds in an even-tempered fashion.

It looks like surrounding herself with cronies and mocking from a safe place for her is all that can be looked for. See, I can't respect that. If she can't face Punaweb forum, she can't possibly be emotionally strong enough to hold office.

I respect all the candidates who come on this forum and engage and prove their ability to engage in discourse on issues and critiques.

I do not respect candidates who let avid (and less than civil) supporters shout down criticisms, candidates who don't have the courage to speak here for themselves.

For example, re campaign ethics -- Tiffany could post to this topic to address why she would be OK with her former staff member writing a piece for BIW in support of Tiffany's candidacy, without disclosing her (the author's) former affiliation with BIC and history with Tiffany.

hi KathyH, mahalo for the information about Ken. I would like to carry on this conversation. I will email you with some questions I have about it.

To continue this thread on campaign ethics, shouldn't it be construed as an in kind donation by the paper for the BIW to give Tiffany an opportunity to appear in a full page ad where she say's what is going to do if she get into office? Basically she's getting exposure for free that normally would cost $2,090 which is over the limit for a donation.

I think everybody knows that the Big Island Weekly is going out of business at the end of the month. They will be no more.

Also Kathy, I like what you said about the punaweb. At least the punaweb respects first amendment speech. You may get verbally battered for what you say but at least you can say it without the consequence of being kicked out.
