kalakoa quote:
"yet at the same time, mildly serious, for it is oft-repeated that "rules are for everyone", and preparing food for public consumption is technically subject to a raft of permits..."

kalakoa, everybody knows that the only time food permits are required is when you are going to sell food like at the former SPACE Market. You have been listening to Graham Ellis too much. Don't believe everything he says.

Yes, and you can even get a permit to sell food for one day events without having a commercial kitchen. (Organizations doing benefits do this all the time.) But yeah, this is FREE.

kalakoa, your efforts to expose double standards and corruption would be more effective if you didn't do it at every turn. Like if some of your posts were about something other than picking the conversation apart and commenting on the horrible systems we live with.

Oh, and the news said Schatz is coming back (tomorrow?) after seeing his family on Oahu and recharging batteries, and will be here with his team (in Puna) and continuing hands on help as well as pushing for federal assistance.

Agree 110%. Unfortunately this response seems limited to crisis rather than daily challenges.

That's human nature, but certain connections and experiences that are positive will remain. Meeting neighbors you never new before, learning that businesses were there for you, cared about you, when you were down ... one hopes this lives on.

There can be a time of depression when things are recovered just enough to where people go back to regular patterns and the support fades away, but people aren't completely back on their feet. One hopes people will continue to connect and work together through that time and in the future.

It's very empowering to learn that the community can overcome such huge obstacles.

Untrue!

Read some of the other forums, people have been helping each other for years on Punaweb, and a lot of other places also.

Anyone got some other examples to share?
