Hawaii worst for return on taxpayer investment
#1
Once again, we show up at the bottom of the list. Imagine that! This time it is in terms of the state and local government giving us what we pay for. From the Honolulu Star-Advertiser article:

The Aloha state ranked 50th in overall return on investment, 49th in total taxes per capita (for the population aged 18 and over) and 38th in education. Hawaii also ranked 48th in worst roads and bridges.

The article will probably go behind the newspaper's pay wall shortly, but here's the link:

I never think of my tax payments to local government authorities as an investment, but more like disposable income, in that they dispose of the income I give them.

I'm confused -

The first sentence from the story in the paper -

"Hawaii ranked last in the nation for taxpayer return on investment in 2018, according to a WalletHub study released today."

sooo...which is it? 2013, old news or Today current. If it is current, Hawaii has been # 50 for 5 years...No Surprise

Frank, Obie was referring to a separate story from five years ago that focused on the poor business climate in Hawaii. The article in my original post was from this week. They are similar in that they both point out how Hawaii shoots itself in the foot when it comes to investment and economic opportunity due to a poor state and local government.
