Balinesian Wood Panels

I have seen a few houses made out of balinesian and asian wood panels and was wondering how people actually find these panels. I have seen them sold online but small ones and I imagine it would be expensive to get them that way.

Is there a place on island to purchase decorative wood panels like that?

Have you been to Paradise Plants in Hilo? It's not just a garden center. The one and only time I visited they had really nice Asian/Zen furniture and accessories. If they don't have wood panels they may know of a source.

Thanks! I haven't been there yet I am not permanently on the island yet but I have a home and want to build a small micro home jungle bungle on my property that would have a balinesian flair. I have seen some houses that have used these carved wood panels, usually teak, to build walls. I just though there might be a local source since several people have done this. I will be sure to check them out once I am on the island again.

On a semi regular basis I have seen container loads of Balinese building materials for sale on Craigslist. Everything from carved beams and ornaments to roof sections and wall panels. It seems like there is someone who regularly brings over these materials from Bali. I would consider putting a "wanted" ad in the materials section of Craiglist once you are ready to build.

Couple months ago Hilo Buy and Sell (the pawn shop/junk shop/consignment shop near the courthouse) had several large carved panels for sale. Haven't been there since, so don't know if they sold. They often have interesting stuff.

Teak Bali used to have a retail store where the Goodwill now is in Hilo, and there was a small shop after they closed in downtown Hilo that had some panels & other objects d'art.

Please try to check if the wood making the panels has been logged legally, especially if you're buying new ones. The market for items of questionable origin is what drives the illegal timber trade. I know that Paradise Plants backchecks their furniture / panel sources.

I have a pair of solid teak antique doors from Bali. They're probably close to 100 lbs. They may not be what you're looking for, but Ill be happy to email you photos of them. I was hoping to use them in the house I'm building, but can't find a place for them after all. Also, there is a shop in Kona that imports wood panels from buildings in Bali. They're pricey, though. Wow!! I'd like to check them out but I won't be able to use them immediately. My mother will be moving into our house first, in December, but currently she is renting over in Hamakua somewhere. But if they will still be available after december I may be interested. I am not even close to building a jungalo yet, as you can see, but if they are the right color and size I may be able to use them to replace the doors in the house.
