Does anyone grow Avocado or Mango trees (that produce)in Fern Acres?
I have a medium sized Jarwell avocado tree that is about 5 years old and so far nothing.
Mahalo for your help

I'm in Fern Acres and I have a tree with over 50 avocados on it. Last year, when we moved in, it had only produced a few. I have no idea what kind it is. I have two babies from the last Plant it Hawaii sale. Plants grown from seed will take longer to fruit, or so, I am told.

The Plant It Hawaii people can give you good advise about about what particular cultivar will do well at what altitude / rainfall.
Planting the right tree for your enviroment makes all the difference. Just as some cultivars will fruit with sweet deliciousness in Opihikao, yet be sour in Mt. View, there are ones that will be fat and juicy in Glenwood, and then be dry and desicated in Kapoho.

Your avocado tree blooms may not be getting pollinated. There are many articles on avocado pollination/pollinators on the internet. You may need several trees of just the right varieties planted in a particular layout to get reliable pollination. Even then, you may find that one particular variety will be the one that consistently yields most of the fruit with the others acting as pollinators.
Yep, we had this experience with ours: we grafted 4 different varieties onto our mature tree and finally got some fruit, but still erratic bearing. Avocado are just finicky, i suspect.
Best of luck, and if you find the trick, please post it here.

I dont find a "jarwell" avocado, but "sharwil" is common in hawaii. From the internet:
"The ‘Sharwil’ tree is a moderate bearer and a “B” variety (a cross between a Guatamalan and a Mexican variety) so when you plant one you would need to also plant an “A” type for pollination or graft a branch onto your tree."
Again, maybe yours needs a pollinator.

Agreed!
You will need both "A' and "B" trees for successful pollination.
Either buy an "A' and "B' variety from plantItHawaii next time they have a sale or just throw all you pits from bought or borrowed Avocadoes in to the neighbors'<undeveloped> land and eventually you will get a pollinator that works!

Throwing the pits really does work. Two years ago I chucked a couple into some ferns and shrubbery that has since been claimed as yard and guess what? Two year old avocado trees.
Me ka ha`aha`a,
