The whole area from my understanding used to be called the Ola'a forest. Wouldn't hurt to incorporate Ola'a into a new name Puna Ola'a South.

Tried to do search and not sure if "cradled in the bosom of Pele" is correct or not.

Have to confess that it was my wife, of course!, who coined that, and she says it is because, "noho kakou (nei) I Ka Poli O Pele".
We think of it as in the embrace of Pele, with one arm Kalapana side and one arm Pahoa side.
