possibly the 1st ferry proposal to the county...
#1
from http://www.bigislandchronicle.com/:

Turpin took the idea and ran with it, e-mailing the county a proposal to use his catamaran, which seats 49, to run a ferry service between Pohoiki and Hilo, taking about an hour each way.

By yesterday evening, Turpin had set up a new Facebook page, Lavaocean Transport, to support the idea. Within three hours of its introduction, it had 70 members. Turpin said he hadn’t heard back from the County yet, but one resident reported that last night, at a meeting with Pahoa merchants about the lava crisis, Civil Defense Director Darryl Oliveira mentioned that he was “in touch” with Turpin.

This sounds like a great idea to me. I had read about his offering to do this before. If the boat works for people, it would be a wonderful scenic trip. I wonder if folks would be able to take a bicycle onto his boat?

I wonder how quickly the ferrying customers will take a backseat to the higher paying sightseeing customers if/when an ocean entry occurs?

Well that is a good idea, a ferry that transports vehicles would be a better option but we will take what we can get.

Just need rental cars or communal vehicles parked Hilo side to complete the transportation puzzle for commuters and shoppers.

Has anyone heard of a one way ticket price?
Assume the best and ask questions.

Having a car on both sides would be a luxury few could afford and also security comes into play with keeping an unattended car parked in Hilo. If there was an hourly shuttle between the pier and KTA, Walmart, Target/Safeway, Home Depot that would be workable.

What I buy at Home Depot would require a deuce and a half! Oh, and the Ag store also.
