Got smoothies?
#1
Call me a late bloomer, but just a couple of weeks ago I saw a smoothie recipe in a magazine that sounded good:

2/3 C frozen unsweetened raspberries
1/2 C orange juice
1/3 C vanilla yogurt

I put all that in my blender and was so pleasantly surprised that I've tried several variations, substituting bananas and different yogurt flavors. I'm on a smoothie kick and I'm wondering if anyone on PunaWeb has any favorite recipes.

Please help this late bloomer find smoothie nervana....

i am a smoothie pro
one of my favorites is banana, chopped dates, soy milk and wheat germ.
then there's papaya, banana, apple, oj, yogurt, wheat germ
there is NO end to the combinations....
i have been making them since long before my keiki was born but now i always keep on hand frozen strawberries, soy milk and wheat germ to add to any fresh fruit i have for a quick healthy breakfast drink that she loves everytime...

Carey,
This is what I've found. With a good supply of bananas and some yogurt, just about any other fruit makes a great smoothie. I've been carrying mine to the office each morning and a couple of people had some less than flattering comments regarding the appearance. Just can't please everyone.[Big Grin]

Ok, you guys...yours sound good but if you CRAVE a thick, rich chocolate shake, try this:
In blender put 4-5 small frozen apple bananas (others would work)
1 cup soymilk
1 T. cocoa or more if you want more chocolatey
2 T. peanut butter
2 T. sugar or other sweetener

Blend adding more soymilk if just too thick (but you want it REALLY thick)or another frozen banana to thicken.
Pour into a big glass and slurp it up with a big straw.
You will never need to go get an unhealthy regular shake ever again, I guarantee!

If you can find powder malt, you can make a real malted shake, yummers!

nancy: since you mentioned peanut butter, have you tasted any other nut butters? i'm really liking almond and cashew butters. safeway in kapahulu (o'ahu) offers others such as honey roasted peanut, chocolate peanut and the aforementioned two. down to earth over here has peanut and almond. so delicious!

PEANUT BUTTER!!?[:0] I would NOT have thought of adding peanut butter to a smoothie, but I guess I'm just expressing my newbieness (new word!). I've also used chocolate soy milk, but I gotta try this.....

I encountered Macadamia Nut butter for the first time the other weekend at the farmer's market. As much as I love nut butters in smoothies, this one is just far too scrumptious to dilute with anything else (like in a smoothie).

<drool>...mac nut butter....

Nevermind, back to the topic of smoothies...
