Arriving soon...

Aloha, seventh heaven,

I think you may be in a pretty cool, if small, group of people who moved to lava path Puna in the weeks before.

Cheers,
Kirt

In case you "no more" cable yet, here is a great link for some good old Hawaiian songs while you unpack and relax:

Thank you again! I've finally got my laptop out of my baggage and hooked up....busy today, but wanted to say thanks again to all. I used my old college user name assigned to me (thought it would be easy to remember), but I probably should have come up with something a tad more catching...LOL. Doing good, LONG trip. Our connector flight left without us, but somehow our luggage went ahead of us...so we were re-routed to Maui for the night. After nearly 20 hours and only cat naps, was totally exhausted. Slept like a log last night. Still slow moving at present and finishing off first cup of coffee. Thanks for all the welcomes....I do FEEL at home!

Best wishes

20 hours? Piece of cake =) From Vancouver Island we drive an hour, take a ferry, then bus to the airport. Often 3 flights (that make zero sense - Vancouver -> Seattle -> Portland -> Kona. Rent car, drive 2.5 hrs to Mt. View. Total travel time has been as high as 36 hrs, and I figure we get away easy compared to many east coasters. If it's less than $100 each extra, we now consider taking the direct flight from Vancouver. I recommend a beach day to really acclimatize. For the extra hardy, try hiking up from Kona airport to catch the Hele On bus to Hilo, then wait around for a bus up to Mt. View (or in your case, Kurtistown?). There are some termite eaten benches across from the Kona terminal to sleep on if you need to wait till morning - can't sleep at the airport proper and you need to be up by 4am for the hike up the hill.

In any case, welcome and congratulations on your move. We can't live in Puna for more than 6 months at a time (Canadians) so we are quite jealous. IMHO Fern Acres is about as good as it gets. A very nice combination of good roads with rural agricultural lots. The only real down side is the spaghetti nature of the lots. Nice climate even if it is a bit rainy. Is your house there or in another subdivision?

Two side by side lots in Fern Acres.
Whoa! What an adventure for you to get here! Our flights normally about 12.5-13.5 hours, depending on how many connectors. Just happy to finally get here! [Big Grin]
