I don't care if its about the people, or the volcano, or the environment, I really love watching documentaries about Hawai'i. Bonus points for ocean documentaries specifically about the Big Island's ocean critters. Some examples are like National Geographic National Park Collection, Hidden Hawaii, or The Living Beach, etc, movies about Hawai'i like Princess Ka'iulani.

glassnumbers,
Do you enjoy reading? If you do , I strongly suggest Armine Von Tempski
#1 Born in Paradise, 1940
#2 LAVA 1930
She has written several others.. Hula 1927, Dust 1928, Fire 1929 (and more.)
I found her books on EBAY and oh what a glimpse into the Big Island past they provided!
Armine was born & raised on the Big Is. Her writing may be a little theatrical at times but her books provide such a rich picture of the Big Island's past.

"The Hawaiians", 1970 with Charleton Heston based on a James Michener novel. Not a documentary exactly but an interesting look into plantation times mainly on Oahu.

since humans have been here for 1/40,000th the time these islands have existed... 2 well made history movies on its historic history....
in most HI libraries... postKapu history (post1819) and a fairly accurate one is the epic 1966 movie called 'HAWAII' with Julie Andrews, Richard Harris, Gene Hackman, Carroll O'Connor, Bette Midler, etc.

another good one is 'Molokai: The Story of Father Damien' (1999) with Kris Kristofferson, Peter O'Toole, etc.
