This is not such a fun task, but if you have the time, clean and sanitize while you still have power and the luxury of hot water. After a few days without power, even the tidiest of us will have areas that get funky fast. I did this before Iselle and was so glad, as we were without power for nine days. Kitchen sinks and prep areas, bathrooms, floors and rugs. Also catch up on laundry as we'll be without that luxury, too.

And, the morning of the storm, fill your bathtub with water for toilet flushing, and of course all of your drinking water vessels. If you're on catchment, rig up a hose and faucet device to access it easily for refilling the tub, etc.

If this storm hits as predicted, even if not the eye, we will likely have downed trees again and extended power outages. More areas than Puna will likely get affected, so recovery might be slower. I think we had such a great response post Iselle, in part, because we were the only area that needed assistance. More than one island is likely to get hit, too.

Blessings to one and all. Hold on for the ride!!

X) extend an offer to those who may need shelter early (as we found out the last storm, those without power did not know for a while there were options)_...If our house is up after the storm hits, any who need have a place...but PLEASE seek the shelter of an evacuation center for the storm... If we have power, we will share...

Right now everyone should have a plan of possibilities... who might have power, water, tools, people to help, warm beds...

Hopefully all of us learned from the last storm that you may need to rely on others...and it may not be any one group...GET YOUR CALLING TREE READY NOW!!!

remember, though it is a "calling tree"...your phone may not work, so it may be a "if you do not hear from me, could you check?"

Don't forget to have cash on hand. After Iselle, when some businesses re-opened, they could only deal in cash, all electronics were out for debit/credit cards.

great topic, Carey. plenty useful tips here i wouldn't want to overlook.

thinking the forecast tracking, current position, etc this morning are all very good signs indeed. kept going wessssst during that critical time and had an unexpected pause in strengthening. don't want to jump the gun, but feeling quite optimistic we can chalk all these great ideas up for future reference.
