If the board is not doing anything wrong they have nothing to fear from being recorded. Having to ask for their permission means they can pick and choose who get to record their actions, the only reason they would want to control who does and doesn't have that permission would be to make sure that the only recordings are done by people who are friendly to them.
Any member of HPP should be able to record or videotape meetings of a board who are supposed to represent them, if the board is afraid of possible legal action because of recordings or videos they are admitting they are doing something they are so ashamed of they don't want a public record of it.

Why has this recording item become such a big issue all of a sudden? This rule used to be in place with previous boards except it was prohibited period. Nowadays people can plaster the meetings on the web and I think we need to rethink all of this and what is considered fair. This opens it up to discussion.
I personally wouldn't want my face plastered everywhere without my permission. Carol, how would you feel if one of your students videoed you teaching your class one day without your knowledge? Then put on YouTube with a slanted caption or a selected scene focused on, out of context, giving a negative view of yourself? Maybe you did absolutely nothing wrong but with editing who knows what one can do. You find out later after someone tells you they saw you on YouTube. Has anyone out there found themselves in a similar scenario, and how did you feel about it?
We're not only talking about a transparency issue, or wrong doing while being videoed. It's about your face, your work, or the board's "volunteer" work being plastered on the web without permission. People doing what they will with what they recorded for their own harmful agenda. No pun intended, but this is a gray area with the recent technological advances.
If, as you say, people were recording without the boards' knowledge this rule isn't going to stop that. The best defense from slanted editing would be for the board to tape the whole meeting and post it themselves.

Agreed, Frank, that the larger problem with HPPOA now is the history of the membership being involved less than is needed. Two things that are needed for HPPOA to stay on the high road and which have fallen over are first, member participation and second, board of directors orderly transparent conduct (as in legal and according to the bylaws).
The second can only be sure to happen following on from the first.
What we now have is not a case of "us against them"; however, IMO, it is most definitely a case of "them" (the majority of the current HPPOA Board of Directors) not doing anything close to a credible job in conducting the association's business for all of "us".
James Weatherford and his wife have NOT attended the last two meetings of the board.
James is a hypocrit who has only hearsay, not first hand knowledge of what has taken place at the last 2 productive HPP meetings.
The last two meetings were video taped.
James, follow your own preaching: don't give slanted opinions about how the board is performing if you are not there to see it first hand.

Karma,
You are correct, when the board changed their meeting time to 9am, we were not able to attend. We were working, as were many other members.
That is my point: one thing to increase member participation is to schedule board meetings when members can attend.
I am glad the last two meetings were video taped, and expect any member who wants to do so to be allowed that opportunity.

That is a very good idea Carol. That idea should be submitted to the board to consider. Post on HPP website? That would help and lot owners could watch the board meeting if they missed it. Then recording by others wouldn't be necessary.
An HPP volunteer would be needed to do the recording. Don't know if we can have an office staff person post it on the web site as it may be outside of their realm of duties or ask a board member if they'd be willing to post it?

Weatherford: The Thursday 9.a.m. meetings are held in addition to the regularly scheduled BOD meetings. The BOD wants to create that "transparency" (a much used and abused word of late) that you and other have thrown around for months now. I am not sure why it is that before every BOD or Membership meeting you have to stir the pot and get everyone riled up. The Thursday meetings have been very productive, maybe because you and your followers have not been there. Why don't you, for once, thank this BOD for their hard work and thank them for the abuse that you have helped inflict. I often see the Interim GM, believe her name is Jo, out on the roads with the road crew. Or the Treasurer who is trying to make sense of the accounts due to lack of checks and balances prior to July. Not sure if you know it or not, HPP is known for having loud and obnoxious "haole's" that set out to ruin every meeting, so much so that they have to have police presence at their evening meetings. I am an owner here and very embarrassed by my fellow neighbors behavior. I would like to request that all BOD meetings be held in the a.m. so that we don't have the disruptions and business can get done. Enough already!

Will someone please post a link to the last couple Thursday morning HPP Board meetings that were videotaped?
Thank you"

Are the videos posted anywhere?
If not, why video tape if not to help those who weren't able to attend?
Also, if a husband of a deed holder in HPP is not on the deed can they talk during owner input? Maybe this is allowed, but I thought it was only the deed holders (lot owners) who could talk on owner input.

Carol,
After all the posts about how you have to work "60 hours" a week, how are you able to post during your school time?
Don't you have an obligation to be focused on your teaching during school hours?
I checked all your recent postings and don't know how you are teaching. You are on punaweb all the time.
How many other blogs and facebook accounts are you also posting on during your work?
You bring up how you can't make even the evening meetings because of your work? Try working at work instead of living you ur life on punaweb.
Your poor students sure don't have your attention but punaweb does.
Maybe a little less negative preaching nd a little more teaching is called for.

Lunch, recess and passing periods. Now you are just getting personal and nasty.
edited to add we just had fall break too. I was also out for months with a broken leg and Punaweb was a lifeline during that time.

My head is spinning.
There are so many points of view and so much finger pointing by us all. Is there someplace we can agree so we can move forward?
I assume we all want what is best for our neighborhood.
We want honest, responsible people managing our (mutual) business and protecting our investments.
We are a microcosm of the world. If we can't work things out here, how can we expect the rest of the planet to fare?
We can't change the past, but we can shape the future.
If something's fishy, I say "give them enough rope..."
This will all work out. Keep the faith!
The storm's coming. Be safe.

Most couples are both on the title, but each lot only gets one vote. I don't know if that means only one of them gets to talk during member input, or if they would have to split their 2 minutes to speak. Usually only one of us can make it anyway, so I never looked into the details. People with multiple lots get multiple votes, but I doubt they get extra speaking time.
