New Google images of Puna

Google has updated their satellite photos since Iselle, you can see downed Albizia everywhere. Also I noticed the map shows Railroad and the new connector road from Nanawale to Hawaiian Beaches.

I don't use G. Earth that often. I brought up the imagery and only see data from 2013. At the bottom of the page, I only see older imagery available. How do I get the up dated photos?

When did you last update your Google Earth app? If not recently, might be time.

If you click on the earlier imagery icon at the bottom (2000?) to show the oldest picture.
Then slide the slider to the right, to the latest pictures. I see August 2014 in HPP.

Can anyone spot the lava flow? I can't.

Mine defaulted to an older image but using the slider was able to get a newer one, however everything was obscured by clouds. In another area the newest image was black and white and poor resolution. It seems the program is "smart" enough to show the best image available, even if its not the newest.

Need to add, I was able to do this in Google Earth, but Google Maps wouldn't show the newest (cloud / poor resolution) images.

Also, don't forget to check out Bing maps. Sometimes their images are better, though as far as I can tell unwilling to give a date the image was acquired.

If you pan West from Pahoa to where a label says "Puna Forest Preserve", there is a long, straight cloud just above a visible crack. This may be the flow at the time of the photo.

there is a reason sat images are not updated more often.. simple economics.

That is what I am experiencing. I did click on the link posted here but still getting an image at least 2 years old. At least that is what I see when looking at my house at 13th and Maku'u... there is a vacant spot on the neighbors property where they have since built a structure.
