After eating out, we took a drive though Pahoa, noticed the brand new NAPA sign up at the old C/C. Also, notice that Napa or someone else is trying to put the old Cash and Carry sign up ... It was flickering, but the Volcano part wasn't working that well. Maybe they will fix it?
Found it interesting ... After they stock the store the flow will probably have moved over 130 ... But I guess maybe they are thinking, they will be the only parts store on the south side. Could be a good thing if lava makes it's way to the sea.
Also, the road going up to the transfer station is blocked maybe 1/4 mile up, so, no more dump runs I guess? Transfer station closed?
Noticed lot's of chopper activity at night.

snipped:
The proximity of the June 27 lava flow to the Apa’a Street area will cause the Department of Environmental Management’s Solid Waste Division to relocate the Pahoa Recycling and Transfer Station.
According to a release Thursday afternoon from the Department, general use of the current transfer station is set to close at the end of the business day on Friday. Recycling services, including green waste, scrap metal, white goods, HI-5, and reuse areas will close at noon to allow time to move equipment.
The temporary site for the transfer station will be located on Kauhale Road above the Pahoa Neighborhood Facility. Operation are scheduled to begin at the new location beginning at 6 a.m. on Saturday morning.

I would really like to see the volcano shaped neon sign be restored on the former Cash and Carry building, although I don't think it would seem quite as camp as it did before.

I was kind of hoping the old Cash and Carry store was going to be a small grocery store of some type.

An auto parts store obviously makes more sense: that way, everyone can keep their cars running for the long drive over CofC to the next nearest grocery store.... which Volcano doesn't really have, so it's at least Keaau.

Drove by Napa today and it looks as if they may have gone already, paper over all the windows and doors. Vodka Steve was passed out in the doorway.

The door was open and they wee in business when I drove by on Saturday, so that would have been a real quick pack out.
