Off Island News Stories About the Lava Flow
#41
Can you imagine what the news reports will say this Friday when people are walking around Pahoa in Halloween costumes?

"Even more trouble in Paradise: in addition to a 2000 degree lava flow, residents are now faced with marauding bands of zombies, witches, and pirates demanding tribute in the form of sweet food stuffs from remaining town folk. How much more can they take."

It definitely sounds like the media is dramatizing this for all that it's worth. I have family on the mainland that think people's lives are in grave danger and that the reason why I didn't answer my phone must be because I must be evacuating, when in fact the reason why I don't answer my cell in the middle day is because I'm at work!

We're not anywhere near the flow, but lately we've been getting calls from people we haven't heard from in awhile asking if we are OK. Nice to hear from them, tho'.

I would prefer to hear from the people who are contacting me about this at times when there isn't a lava flow coming through Pahoa. My sister-in-law's brother only calls me when: 1) There is a hurricane or 2) There is a lava flow. Nice guy and we've always gotten along great but he is one of many acquaintances who have come out of the woodwork to express "concern" for me.

The CBC radio show "As it Happens" did a story last night on the lava flow. http://www.cbc.ca/asithappens/ - check the right hand tab to find the audio.

The next time you read the Wall Street Journal for some stock advice, consider the accuracy of this headline today.

Lava Flow Threatens Coastal Village in Hawaii

See you later, I'm headed down to catch a few waves at Pahoa Beach. And what a coincidence, both the surf and the market are up today! Hey wait a minute WSJ, where's the water?
