The blank votes are a really odd thing. How the heck can someone not bother to vote for the most local representative that they can have?

There's no (D) or ® by the name to tell them who to vote for.
One really weird thing - I was also following the results in Maine, where my parents live. The crazy governor was narrowly re-elected, while the less-crazy senator won by over 2-1 (they're both Republicans). But in one town where the governor won overwhelmingly, the senator actually lost because evidently more than half of his voters didn't bother to cast a vote for the senate race. Very strange.

Don't know, PaulW, however, statewide, it's an EXTREMELY LOW turnout.

Total turnout statewide was 48.2% among registered voters; no figures on what the % of eligible voters is. 4,568 votes cast in the D5 race (including blanks).
