Chas, I was gonna say the same thing. Preparing for a county council run in 2020. Why not, the pay will probably be $80k+ by then, showing up is optional, and your job is to spend other people's hard earned money.

A regrettable event, especially for the old-timers who discoursed with Kalakoa for years. Makes me wonder how many Punatalk posters, especially old-timers, know each other in person.

I know some commentators from the astronomy community are acquainted, perhaps several posters who serve on some of the subdivision associations. Otherwise, it seems, not so much.

Interesting that most of us could pass each other on the street, or farmers market, perhaps even engage in a superficial conversation, and be unaware we've been talking on-line.....maybe for years.

An insightful observation MarkD. In many cases fellow Punawebbers pass could on the street and miss a moment of fortunate circumstance, an opportunity for unexpected surprise in their day which could have become a pleasant conversation or more. We might find a friend in the bigger picture beyond a keyboard and monitor and expand our horizons. Which one would think might happen more often on Big Island since we live on high mountains surrounded by seas with no lack of distant views beyond.

In other cases, which are fortunately few in number, not recognizing another Punawebber could save valuable time and effort as Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Downton Abbey can attest:

I've had my suspicions about certain posters' identities but only know of a small few for sure. Not that I really care so much, but it does raise the point that running for office would blow Kalakoa's cover. Do you think he's ready to come out?
