One reason they may not be able to reopen it is the large piles of cinder surrounding the utility poles. I believe the piles encroach onto the roadway.

One lane is blocked by the concrete rings and cinder piles placed by HELCO, doubt if they're willing to remove it at this time.

I put the single word 'Puna' into Google and hit search. The result: #3 on 1st page is punaweb.org

Were I on the mainland and looking to vacation somewhere in Hawaii and saw a thread titled: Puna's being treated like a war zone... I just might hit the back button and Google 'Maui'.

Just sayin'.

This lynch mob mentality with so many ganging up and raking Kathy over the coals isn't good for Puna's public relations either.

They're already doing that -- the message isn't very positive, though.

That may change soon. Kevin Dayton I believe from what I read is going to work with the Pahoa Mainstreet Association on a little more positive spin!

and dont forget the Holiday Parade in Pahoa Dec 6 - 9:30 AM

What about opening it one-way into Pahoa?

Would be interesting to see the road as a one lane direction with widened sidewalk area and access for restaurants to have open seating for one to say they had dinner next to the flow, stores extra room for clearance bench or planting strips to help shade areas for folks and Tourii shopping downtown and be known as the Mardi Gras of the Pacific where one parties down and carries on despite the flow. It's how one adapts and shows the world how it's done while under the microscope for the time being. The parade would be a great way to show the world, start practicing!

And your logic is....? Obviously it is proving that all the junk she incessantly posts about Puna is just that...junk. There will always be those who throw in the monkey wrench, and it's good that tourist are aware and read that it's basically business as usual around here.

When I lived in Alaska I posted questions about relocating parrots to Puna on a different forum and some lunatic replied that if I brought my parrots to Puna they would be stolen or somebody would kill them by breaking their beaks off, and also that I should show up with nothing because everything I brought would be immediately stolen. Then they went on to recommend I come here to punaweb to get answers on Puna. I always figured that whoever told me those things was a member here and I wondered who it was. I think I have it figured out.

Yes, we could incorporate a more positive attitude, a look on the bright side:
