Safeway Gas $3.75
#41
What happened to oil at $200 a barrel and gas at $10 a gallon? And "peak oil"?

Do not confuse engineering reality with price manipulation.

There is a finite amount of oil; it will eventually run out, even if nobody can accurately predict exactly when that will happen. Meanwhile, the prices are affected by far more factors than simple supply/demand.

For most people, it will be both "too late" and "a huge surprise" when the oil markets collapse; by then, the meganationals will own all our water, lather rinse repeat.

Peak oil meant that peak oil production had already been reached. They were saying this over a decade ago.
Yet production keeps rising.

There's still plenty oil and there always will be - we will have moved on to cheaper alternatives long before it comes even close to running out. It's basic economics.

Sorry, I haven't got that paranoia disease.

Every few years some nutcase claims to have "invented" a device that can fit on a table or back of a truck that can power a small city. Well its happened again, but this time it's not a nutcase, it's the USAs largest defense contractor and a leader in aerospace industries. Lockheed Martin claims that it will have a functioning fusion reactor within a year, a commercial prototype within 5, with full commercialization within 10. This time, the end of the grid might really be coming.

Yesterday Friday we paid 3.65 a gallon at Safeway and at Aloha by the airport entrance we paid 3.62 a gallon with cash.
In California the state tax on all fuels per gallon will increase approx .40 cents a gallon on January 1st 2015 .
Lucky we live Hawaii.

Not really very lucky when it comes to the taxes placed on gasoline. Over 65 cents is added for every gallon you buy in Hawaii. The stations around Hilo would be around $2.99 without these taxes.

BTW 40 cents is the average in the 50 states, so Hawaii is a quarter per gallon higher.

Has Hawaii County Council passed a No Fusion resolution yet?

You may be joking but there are already people lining up against fusion energy. They say that the solar system already has a giant fusion reactor and all we need is solar panels to harvest it. Fortunately, fusion energy is safe. If the containment system fails the worst that can happen is the fusion reaction stops. The fuel used is extracted from seawater, fortunately, Hawaii has plenty of that.

"Five years after that, they expect to have a fully operative model ready to go into full-scale production, capable of generating 100MW—enough to power a large cargo ship or a 80,000-home city—and measure 23 x 42 feet, so you "could put it on a semi-trailer, similar to a small gas turbine, put it on a pad, hook it up and can be running in a few weeks."" I wonder if by "large cargo ship" they mean "aircraft carrier". They do. It is no surprise that energy independence may be coming from a defense contractor. The limiting factor in all the cutting edge 21st century weapons has been energy delivery. It looks like the weapons people may have found their solution.

I saw Chain Reaction and what happened to Chicago, that fusion stuff is dangerous!

Today at Hilo Safeway $ 3.34 a gallon
In Kurtistown $3.58
Just remember on Jan 1st 2015 The feds add a 9 cents gallon tax on all grades of fuel nation wide.
So fill up no later than Dec 31st 2014 on all fuel tanks,to save that increase from your personal budget .

In tropical climates solar works really, really, really well & it's actually pretty cheap. It's about economics, hard to explain to Gov't Defense contractors....
