You may want to tell Flip Key as well that the Destination Experts on TA are telling people that Puna will be closed for Christmas and that the area is currently under martial law.

SheaG on Mauna Kea: "To clear up any confusion, the summit does in fact close after dark to visitors."
She posts a link. What say you, Tom?

Kathy's latest today 11/29:
I can tell you that when one of my sons, who lived in Puna at the time, developed MRSA, and went to a local Puna clinic, that the medical provider's first assumption was "Hot ponds, right?." He said no, he had not been in them recently, which shows that it can be gotten in other ways, definitely. However, the provider then told him that he/she saw MRSA infections in people swimming in the warm ponds and tidepools "all the time," and advised no one to swim in at least the warm ponds. I have a friend whose son had his leg amputated due to flesh eating bacteria, who was a hair away from being taken off life support. I met a guy recently who lost a couple toes after swimming at Ahalanui. PS. Regarding non-reporting, I have heard from staff at the health food store that they see people who come in for alternative remedies to antibiotics, and I have read many people discussing their herbal treatments and such on line ... plenty of people don't want to go to doctors or don't have insurance. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g29...l#62704221 Shea 11/29: As some of us here have experienced, being a DE can bring an disproportionate amount of negative attention - even unfortunately turning into real life harassment and threats - so I can understand why many people pass. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g60...l#62702858 These girls are as relentless as they are delusional. I would guess Shea's comment is in response to the replies she received when she posted as "Mermadness." It's not enough for Kathy to suggest her son contracted MRSA fromn the hot ponds. When that was ruled out, she infers that the entire Puna district is teaming with the bacteria, ready to infect a person from anywhere. In Puna.

quote: I think TomK for the win. No hours posted on it but they do suggest how much time to allow for hiking so you do not get caught hiking in the dark. But that is the closest to any posted hours I saw on that website. http://www.ifa.hawaii.edu/info/vis/visit...a-kea.html SheaG posted the MKCMP from 2009 and it covers the MK Science Reserve not the whole mtn. and Yes adopted.

And maybe the folks who post negative thoughts about Puna have actually lived it, and know what they're talking about. Lower Puna is a cesspool.

Are you still happily in the PNW? Because you sound a bit pissy in your post. I understand that you had bad experiences when you moved here, but to hold onto that anger or resentment still isn't healthy. JMHO WahineWahineLead by example

Brad, that is your opinion. But I think you are the cesspool taking all the Sh--T, and I can care less about your opinion. I am, and as many of us, we are lucky to live here. No pretending, no bull. Maybe you were the as--hole. that had to leave this place. I am actually glad you are not here. Go back, yes, same old story, we do not want people like you here. If you can not blend and accept the culture, just because you did not like it, do not call it a cesspool. Plenty of rich people here, that have found peace from the cesspool you live in. punalvr
