I think you also have to be delusional to think people will wade through such a long post. Perhaps a short summary with links for those inclined to follow them would be better. I'm no fan of FPL or it's parent but I'm not going to read all of that.

Don't be expecting any infrastructure upgrade.
I already wasn't, so nothing new there.
a political dynamo, making millions in political contributions and lobbying assiduously
They'll fit right in, then.
to think there's even the slightest chance a nuclear power plant will be built in Hawaii
Exactly: an undersea interisland grid is obviously cheaper, safer, and totally "green".
was guilty of not being hooked up to an approved water supply
Please bring that circus to our County, so Puna can file countersuit for the lack of infrastructure. Build me a sewer hookup and some gigabit fiber while you're at it.

I wouldn't consider seeing a thorium based reactor on the island out of the question in my lifetime.

Considering that NextEra Energy Resources has already come out with statements that they will be investing heavily in solar and wind generation for Hawaii, is it really that terrible?

From what we have read about NextEra Energy of Florida - They do NOT allow individuals to have any sort of grid tie solar generation on the roof tops of homes or businesses .
We do not have grid power but this new company would sure upset the balance of power ( no pun intended ) here in Hawaii the State.
Have to W8 and C.

The Conversation interview from this morning on this topic (scroll down to just listen to this segment). Sounds like there will be opposition to the deal at the initial hearings in a couple months.

Don't know where you read this but it is wrong.

Can I "net meter" under this program? In other words, can I get credit from FPL for any excess electricity that I generate and lower my electricity bill?
Yes, residential and business customers with photovoltaic (PV) systems must net meter. To be eligible, the system must be connected properly so that electricity can flow in both directions and your electric meter can calculate the net impact on your bill. Please visit
www.FPL.com/netmetering for more details.
