things will never change

Prejudice is a learned behavior. My Father was a huge Bigot and I hated it. I've lived in Hawaii longer than any other state. As a Haole boy, when I first moved to Maui in the mid 80's, I was amused when I got my first dose of reverse racism. I literally laughed in disbelief when it was directed at me. Then, after, I learned it was for real and I thought "How F___ed up is that?"
Through the first few years it started to eat at me. So I decided instead of getting upset I would choose to indulge the local boys who taunted me. I would play along to the part and to the extent of agreeing with them saying Yeah, I'm just a F___ing Haole. Pilau F___ing Haole.
And you know what? A lot of the time they were turned around. And I became their Haole friend. I can remember lots of times and parties , In Hana, I went to I was one of only a few Haoles in the room and I was accepted. It was really cool. One of my Bradah friends use to say. Ah never mind Kimo. He don't know he's white.
Punatic007 's comment is Dead on. sadly.
One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected.

But it all goes hand in hand. Sad really, not enough money or resources to combat the problem. Just making the cycle continue.

Eric the problem needs to be recognized and properly addressed first. Many of the new caucasian transplants to the island who buy into the reverse racism insanity continue to further the social decay by their lack of insight and understanding of the moral decay that comes with prejudical thinking. With racial block voting courtesy of the racial Chambers of commerce here in Hilo and immigrant populations, the voting potential to bring about healthy change is still not there.

haoleproud reminds me of a guy I used to know, to my sorrow, from Oregon 20 plus years ago, that had "White Pride" tatooed on his back while he was in prison, "to protect him from "coloreds" while he was in prison." My next door neighbor suggested he use gasoline and some steel wool to erase it. Same applies here.

Hatred is like a fire that is all consuming. It moves unquenched until there's nothing left and then it dies unsatisfied.
Love is like the rain that comes with mercy to quench the charred land bringing forth new life from the ashes.
As the forest grows it forgets the past It grows happily until adulthood.
Then one day the fire comes again...
One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected.

It's economic stress. Odds are overwhelming he's in the same boat as the imaginary boogeyman he thinks he is competing with.
