Palikapu Dedman with the Pele Defense Fund
#11
Mr. Dedman has passion, and some of what he states is truthful. Some is not. He does not represent this Hawaiian, nor my ohana.

We agree on certain points, however, his delivery of the message needs work. I know him well, and will stand onipa'a on my ohana belief(s), which includes being respectful, and truthful. On those issues, we disagree, somewhat respectfully. I don't mind being called, "assimilated Hawaiian". I'm still a Hawaiian, too.

Pahoated's statement holds truth, too. As does, leilanidude's (spot on), lavalava's, and dakine's. Bottom line is, let's deal with facts, please. Just the bloody facts.

We don't (my ohana) want to contribute to the continued costs for a few who have their own agenda. I applaud Mr. Dedman's plea, and his agenda for the good of our people (ie. puuhonua, etc.). However, it does not match with what is truly HAWAIIAN in this instance.

Our (my ohana) kupuna would not appreciate such a display of disdain and disrespect. We were taught you lose credibility when stating your position arrogantly, and haughtily. If you know you are in the right, no need to be confrontational.

All things take time, and factual information. This study will (all of them) continue to prove there is no correlation between the geothermal plant, and health issues. This money may have been spent in a more productive manner, however, due to the litigious history of these groups, the County/State want to prove the effort was made. Again, and again, and again.

Not one of my ohana, nor my extended ohana, who have lived here for generations, claim to be ill from the existing geothermal plant. None. Nor are they on the list of the over 70+ plantiffs of the last lawsuit filed.

Some of the members of the current group "Puna Pono" (God, that name turns my stomach) and the other plantiffs should have finished the job, and closed the plant down at the time if it was such a detriment to our community. Instead, they accepted over $2 million dollars in "settlement". Auwe!

Well, it left room for another lawsuit to be groomed, and this health study is part of the "legal protection" for future suits, which are already being prepared by the same core group as the last.

We pay the cost. Again. (SMH)

Any chance you'd be willing to post a link to what you are referring to? Would help clarify what sounds like a mash-up of various findings.

This is the same County that outsourced their property tax collections to some place in Washington State, because, you know, the poor people there have no job market and we have to help them out.

Dedman's got a temper but bottom line his delivery worked, got another health study. As long as there are permits available to drill near residential/ag zoning we need more studies. We need a buffer zone, a big one.

Does the loud noise of drilling 24/7 for a month or so affect the well being of Native Hawaiian population adversely? Good God yes, it would have ill affects on anyone.

Once again the lack of empathy and compassion from the pro-geothermal crowd here is disturbing. I think you all should exchange houses with the residents affected during the drilling and then come back and tell us how your nerves are doing. Or perhaps you could all donate a fund for them to stay in a nice hotel in Hilo till it's done, including pet care fees.

Thanks for this, but for clarity, this is not a health study. CDC ATSDR also has a new H2S and Carbonyl Sulfide advisory from Oct 2014 that are worth discussing.

I'd be most interested in the EPA study that went before Supreme Court if you have a link at hand.

pahoated - I have no interest in arguing with you over what appears to be a self-incriminating insult regarding competency with a search engine. If you have a date or document title for what you are referring to, I'm sure one of us who keeps a collection of articles on this topic can provide a link for everyone else.

As you've stated a disdain for anti-science proponents, and a dislike for redundant efforts, perhaps you would consider skipping the same diatribe you've carried out here and elsewhere for the last few years and simply engage on the science of the situation?

If nothing more, it would help clarify the goal of the health study RFPs, and ensure smart spending from the Geothermal Asset Fund, which you appear so motivated to preserve.
