Police trap in Keaau
#61
I never said or implied "glad he got caught". The fine is doing what it's supposed to do, stop those without awareness from talking and listening on a cell while driving. The higher the fine, the more apt the person is to never pick up the cell again. This is where Kimo and I disagree. I have also challenged him to see beyond the "inconvenience" of a high fee to truly grasp the reason behind it. If someone dear to him is injured or dies in an accident, God forbid due to a cell phone usage while driving, he is going to wish the fee was much higher as a deterrent.

I comforted 1000's of families traumatized beyond belief from avoidable auto accidents on the swing shift as an ER intake/ward clerk in a major city as I put myself thru uni.

Maybe someday Kimo will say he was very glad he got the ticket and has gained the awareness that he could not talk on his cell and be a safe driver.

The fine for running a stop sign or traffic light is $97. Imo that's more dangerous.

Too much? As you first stated, I bet you think twice about answering that phone from now on though. Which is the point, behavior modification.

well I'm one of the "glad you got caught " people . honestly following some person on a cell phone that is all over the road because they are talking and distracted is annoying and unsafe. just follow the law . there is nothing so important to talk about , that cannot wait until your no longer driving . you are a menace on the road using a cell phone and driving , that's why there is a law .

Werner Herzog documentary on texting and driving, but it's a good antidote to any kind of distracted driving. Personally, I think fast food eating and driving is extremely dangerous.

I'd pay a $100,000 fine rather than be one of the guys praying at the side of the road. That's not how you want to spend the rest of your life.

It's not about distracted driving. It is revenue.
Standing on the side of the road waving a sign purposely to get drivers attention. Thats distracting but thats legal because it create's revenue See it for what it is a way to generate more money.

Yes, the cops seem to be on a big revenue campaign lately. However the cell phone tickets are a good thing. Whats with you? Why can't you see? Most everyone I know makes frustrated comments about irregular driving from those on cell phones. I notice where there are reception blackout areas, they decelerate 10 to 15 miles an hour predictably in the same spots for no visible reason. Lost reception and try to redial, then regroup, takes a minute or two, rejoin the world of sight and eventually realize they are driving 32 in a 55 zone and speed up just to slow down abruptly again when reception returns.

Yesterday the guy in front of me was weaving all over the road so I went to overtake and - yep - on his phone.
Then the car behind was driving way too close so I look in my mirror and - yep - she was on the phone.
I've changed my mind. $300 is too low. Make it $500.
