I've seen the news about nearly all the Hawaiian Airlines flight attendants voting for a strike, but haven't seen anything about when it might happen. Does anyone know? I have some trips lined up in the next couple of months and wondered if it might happen during that time. Many thanks.

Airline employees are subject to the Railway Labor Act, meaning This strike isn't going to happen soon, maybe years from now !

There isn't any immediate danger of a strike, but pay attention to the news. If the Feds feel negotiations are at an impasse, they usually declare a 30-day cooling off period, after which a strike is possible, but not certain. U.S. labor laws restrict the circumstances under which airline workers can strike, and presidents can declare an emergency stopping them. Bush II did this in the early 2000's, I think.

Thanks both. I did read about the 30-day cooling-off period but wasn't sure when that kicked in.

Maybe the attendants are anticipating their potential flight disruptions to coincide with Southwest's arrival into the market. Management would not like that one bit.

Here is the NMB flow chart of negotiations :
https://nmb.gov/NMB_Application/wp-conte...wchart.pdf
They are currently at the 2nd step.
Either or both parties request
NMB mediation or NMB
invokes Public Interest
Mediation
You can see there is a long way to go before a strike and because a strike would cripple intra-state travel, the President would be asked to step in.

Thanks, Obie, that link makes things much clearer.
