PGV meeting ends in arrest for RJ

punalvr - "I find attacking the messenger for personal physical imperfections to be elitist."

would have to say i can certainly respect and appreciate this statement on principle. though i probably wouldn't quite choose "elitist".

can only really speak for myself, but i think it's obviously the total sum of unusually destructive and exceptionally ugly behavior of the individual on the community stage over time which is driving the emphatic disapproval here.

I give her credit for her passion. And this is Puna.
I might not agree with the tactics, but that has been the way, where change for the positive has been effected everywhere.
So what have you attacking whiners done to improve Puna??
Be kind, help her get her teeth, if it bothers you too much.
I have seen sparkling teeth behind a fake, as well as seen a toothless person making more sense than the president.
I would like to read posts about you, the complainers, about what YOU have done to try and improve our living in this piece of paradise.

I've got no opinion on RJs appearance or dental issues, most of the people posting here do not seem to care about that either, but shutting down a meeting attended by many people in the community who wanted came out that night to both listen and speak was self indulgent grandstanding. Those people invested time on a weekday night to attend that meeting, RJ should have let them have the meeting, instead of pretending that she spoke for the whole community and shutting it down. Just because one or two people got in a cheap shot or two doesn't change what RJ did.

'"magma is rock"

that is highly debatable. much more than mere semantics carelessly cast about by the random astrophysicist, to some it might be flowing Earth blood. to others it may be suckled as Mother Earth milk. to yet others embraced as Terra-nectar.

where is the proof it is not these things.

Post of the thread as far as I'm concerned. Funny, satirical and a grain of truth to it. I love the phrase "random astrophysicist" by the way. If I ever get back to blogging I might just steal that name!

This timely documentary shows what can happen when a greedy company drills into a magma chamber. Don't miss it today on the Syfy channel (Swamp Volcano).

I am very concerned for the well being of the people in the Leilani and surrounding areas. Most especially since our last head of Civil Defense Harry Kim upon retirement repeatedly stated that geothermal is too dangerous to have in this area. Due to the concern and care I feel for those members of our community, I don't have a problem with RJ's performance. In fact I get that she also cares and staged a protest to bring attention to dangers it poses to innocent lives, wouldn't have been my choice however she was successful so who is anyone to judge. Only reason to be angry or judge is if one is receiving a paycheck or royalties from heavy industry as it poisons the thousands of people who live in the area. That's where the real problem lies, with those who are so greedy that they turn a blind eye to the suffering it causes. Now they plan to drill 24/7 running 100's if not 1000's of people out of their homes, that is the height of abuse and carelessness.

Punatic007 - I understand your concern. After having friends leave Leilani, at a substantial financial loss, after the Iselle release event, I have put considerable time into this topic and trying to share what I have found.

A meeting with PGV to understand, and possible challenge, their plans is of value for everyone. Having a single person, with difficult to understand complaints, disrupt such a meeting is counter-productive. RJ needs to better connect the dots regarding concerns over magma and geothermal.

Given the Jan 29th timeline, attention is better focused on PGV's plans for drilling noise and emission controls, as well as ways of independantly monitoring these impacts. Emergency response should also be a focus as well IMHO.

Agreeing with RJ about Geothermal is a moot point.
Go back a few years; RJ shared similar views with lots of people about sustainability, the environment, development, etc. Some of these folks achieved a degree of success while RJ remained irrelevant. That is her motivation today. She desperately needs to become relevent, but the only way she knows how to do that is to pull down the people who have actually accomplished something.

Who among us has no skeletons in the closet? RJ has become adept at digging them up; but don't confuse that with altruism. It's the exact opposite; RJ is for RJ, not the community.

The RJ problem will take care of itself eventually, as she continues to burn bridges and self destruct.
