Most especially since our last head of Civil Defense Harry Kim upon retirement repeatedly stated that geothermal is too dangerous to have in this area. Due to the concern and care I feel for those members of our community, I don't have a problem with RJ's performance. In fact I get that she also cares and staged a protest to bring attention to dangers it poses to innocent lives, wouldn't have been my choice however she was successful so who is anyone to judge. Only reason to be angry or judge is if one is receiving a paycheck or royalties from heavy industry as it poisons the thousands of people who live in the area. That's where the real problem lies, with those who are so greedy that they turn a blind eye to the suffering it causes. Now they plan to drill 24/7 running 100's if not 1000's of people out of their homes, that is the height of abuse and carelessness.

Cue the overly dramatic music.

It just isn't happening. I live within a mile, straight line from the plant. The neighbors I have talked with, although they have expressed a concern over the Iselle release, are not worried about their health from the plant at all. They also seem to be normal, rational, educated and informed working people (as well as a few retired ones.)

If only the Citizen's Coalition would spring to action.
A group of Puna residents who would announce their intentions and meeting times for all to attend and offer their input.
A group with members who also witnessed the PGV meeting and recognized that an arrestable offense took place, and wanted to provide testimony to the police department about what RJ did and said at the meeting. Who then would press to have their testimony sent on to the prosecutor's office.
If only the Citizen's Coalition would call a meeting. Where are they? What are they waiting for?

Amazing how you think you know more than Harry Kim, retired head of Civil Defense. Who exactly are you? And why do you defend heavy industry on an active volcano where 1000's of people live?

Amazing how you think you know more than Harry Kim, retired head of Civil Defense. Who exactly are you?

Being the head of a county department simply means they were a manager, who could follow the directions of the mayor in this case. What certifications did he obtain in the disaster recovery planning, mitigation and business continuity sectors?

Besides, what Harry Kim did or didn't do or say 20+ years ago regarding a completely different technology/industry has no real bearing upon what is here, today.

The rest of the world has embraced geothermal power as there are hundreds now operating, with hundreds more in development. Some of Germany's plants are located in the middle of urban areas!

I understand they were supposed to reschedule the meeting, and Iligan would have a PO there next time. Haven't heard a date yet, and supposedly they start drilling Monday according to their news release. Does anyone know?

Yes, many things for many people to discuss, which RJ spoiled in her passionate manner. One can be pro-geothermal but also be anti-24/7-night drilling, and have concerns about this invasive three month+ process (noise as well as safety). Not everyone who has a concern is anti-PGV. Hopefully, the voices will be heard, soon.

Mahalo, pog, I was waiting for someone to ask.

The police that arrived had good training. Mighty MAHALO to the two officers who put their hands on my arms. How gentle was their grip.

I was charged with disorderly conduct. I will be pleading NOT GUILTY and if the public knew what I know they would have joined me.

What I want everyone to know and what I want to make a matter of public record is that bill 292, the night time drilling ban, does not cover PGV's prior contract. PGV is exempt from the prohibition and any other after the fact restriction. Their right to drill at night is vested and the Puna Pono Alliance(PPA) was told that at the time of the bill's passage. For those who still might not understand bill 292 only applies to future companies with future contracts.

Ironically the night drilling ban gives Ormat a monopoly as they are now the only company that can drill 24/7 on the Big Island. Dominic Yagong who introduced the bill knew this and stated in his testimony, "We said it over and over we don't expect to effect the existing permit."

For the leadership of PPA to continue to assert that there is a night time drilling ban and that PGV is not complying with it is over the top and does violence to the TRUTH. Their job is to lead not mislead. Plain and simple.

I was also determined to illuminate the immenseness and ramifications of the serendipitous discovery of MAGMA (the source) and the severity of the violations of the lease agreement that occurred at PGV in 2005 that need now to be addressed and rectified. If it can be rectified.

Let me make it quite clear, PGV who scheduled the meeting and our two councilmember's who were attending, did not call the police. Mahalo Mike Kaleikini and a shout out to the Councilmen Paleka and Ilagan.

So let's see......The only way to provide the people at the meeting with this information was to have a 45 minute hissy fit and shut down the meeting?

Interesting strategy.

RJ, this is really a sorry situation. You are obviously intelligent, and have a lot of good points to make - but your method screws up the message. Next time, please try to keep your cool and stay with the facts. Weird antics and Punatic silliness just ends up looking bad for anyone else that has a legitimate point. You obviously feel passionately about your views, but you are really NOT reflecting well on the viewpoints that you are trying to make. And you are NOT representing the people that live in this area. Nothing is helped by childish loud disruptions in a meeting full of adults. Please bring facts, figures, science and a willingness to cooperate to the next meeting. We will all appreciate that. This is a serious issue and childish games merely make us all look bad.
