August: 90% complete, grand opening in October.

October: Most shops expected to open by thanksgiving.

December: "estimated" that a few shops will be "complete" by end of January.
The developer seemed so confident that everything would open soon, I wonder what happened to that plan?

October, Thanksgiving, December, January...
This time it’s not just one restaurant, Luquin’s, and one urinal holding up the show.
When it’s dozens of shops losing four months of income (and counting), your-in-all kinds of difficulty.

This is what happened, everyone at the county level is swamped trying to deal with all of the short term vacation rental applications.
The team is coordinating with HELCO to
have power installed to all buildings this month, andworking
closely with the Department of Public Works’ Building
Division for permitting and inspections to get tenants
occupying their spaces.

Yawn... all places I'll probably never go into. Wake me when Popeyes is open.
Actually... nevermind. I'll smell it when they open.

Though I'm an old geezer, I have Kaiser Permanente. They have vastly improved the gym benefit. Have to wzit and see if 2020 is the same. Just found out that they now will let you join any gym. Used to be Aloha Fittness only. Then, if you go enough times, they reimburse you for all of it. I think once a week and you get enough sessions to have it paid for 100%. Used to be they paid for about two thirds.

Likely, plausible, yet I don't think it's the real explanation (not that it matters what I think, nor will they ever tell us the truth).
I suspect that nobody is really in any hurry to open before the anchor tenant.
Wake me when Popeyes is open.
Exactly -- this is also what I'm really after. Malama Wine Bar ... not so much.

I just don't see a wine bar in Pahoa making any money. Are there that many wine connoisseurs in the greater Pahoa area?

Sure. It is all those tourists staying in the vacation rentals... Oh wait! Don't have many of those anymore. Thanks, County!
