Just to share our ohana experience with all of you, given the tenuous discussions elsewhere. Perhaps a bit of light on a new subject will encourage all of us to stop for a moment, and take a breath.
We hosted ELEVEN ([:0]) college students over the holidays from California to New England. The group came to study "sustainability". Brilliant keiki, polite, and quite lovely. They had great questions, were thoughtful, respectful, and really wanted to learn our culture.
We made lei, we walked old lava, we fed them laulau, poi, raw fish (OMG! lol), kalua pig (real kine, from the imu) and made their own kulolo. Had them work a taro field in Waipio, fish for dinner, and made them take off their shoes coming into the house.
The group also went to Kona, and Maui. They called (I don't do text, lol) every day since they left us, to keep their new "Tutu" advised of their progress. We all cried when they left us, such young souls who we will cherish forever. Extended ohana, indeed.
Share your mana'o with the keiki. No matter what aina they come from.
They are our future.
Mahalo for letting me share. Obviously, they touched my heart.
JMO.
