Hawaiian acres roads/community association
The really nice thing is if the building is legalized it then becomes a B occupancy with an Assembly permit attached. With the County seeing it as a B, the HOA office creates it as a business, the rest of the building is the assembly area, with postings of how many people can be in the building at once, etc. etc.

With this all in place, if the HOA can approve on farmers markets, "BBQ cook off days"(hot food day) and the like can legally happen there. In all, it can then be used at the majority homeowners vote and discretion.

As it is now, one would have to go thru the County to get approvals on the land use along with the HOA. If legalized the HOA would have a "conditional use" permit with the County as the manager for the outside functions as part of the community needs, bypassing special permits for each event from the County.

Birchl - I really do not think you are aware of the seriousness of the drug problem out here, especially the meth and heroin that is being injected by the addicts.
Even in Kurtistown park where the kids play ball, all over that area and in the lua's are discarded needles and drug baggies.
We have reported this to law enforcement and they acknowledge the gravity of the situation, their advice to us ,wear gloves when picking up the used needles and discard properly.
You have you head in the sand Birchl because the addicts are everywhere around you ,even on Rd 2 is an abandoned shack where they go to shoot up,between F and G.
The owner of the lot and shack is in Arizona,we went tax office and got the mailing address and sent a certified letter, explaining but never heard any thing back.
We let law enforcement know and gave them copies of the correspondence.Recently on Road 1 and D where the bus stop is,we have been finding in the wee hours of dawn, when we drop of one of the grand kids for the bus, discarded needles and drug baggies ,which we dispose of properly.
We have attended in the past the community watch meetings at HACA and spoken to the community policing officer,he took down the information we presented and nothing ever came of it.
In Hilo the needles are EVERYWHERE and seems like now herein H.A. the situation is getting worse by the day.
Birchl, start taking walks of 3 to 6 miles a day in H.A. and let us know about all the opala you find and have picked up an how many needles and drug baggies that are used.
We will gladly wait for your reply back.
In addition, you keep saying in this thread that so much kala is pouring in,no need mandatory dues. How do you know this ?
One last thing Birchl - do you pay your road dues like we do ?

Here is what someone else who was at that meeting has to say (not me, this was posted on the Acre Head FB page):
"The new HACA Board is out of the gate. The first line of business was to design a new meeting approach that will welcome inputs from attendees on-topic throughout our meetings. Other significant changes are with regard to the new and approachable H.A. website soon to be developed and the increasingly open financial records. Very soon the Center physical plant issues will be resolved with the welcome installation of a hot water heater and refrigerator. A work party is meeting on Sat. from 8 a.m. on to finish up the Firehouse building issues for the County sign-off. " and "The focus of the new Board appears to draw forth ideas from our neighbors and to make the Center a resource for our entire community toward food self-sufficiency and self protecting neighborhoods."

They are concerned and are moving forward to do what the majority want in our agricultural subdivision: get the legal aspects finished with the Center and then support our local farmers and sustainability practices with our own Farmer's Market.

You still seem to want to dissolve HACA. Most of us are convinced that is totally unnecessary and actually cant be done. And if you dont know for sure about something (...if I remember correctly...) then DO NOT post rumors and other unsubstantiated thoughts. We need Aloha and constructive dialog, not your destructive busy body, I-know-it-all ways.

Welcome barry , you are a much needed breath of fresh air to the neighborhood . oh by the way, again i was on the receiving end of another cowardly act of harassment and intimidation, a few days ago a dead goat was thrown into my yard, it is the 3rd dead animal in the past few months. thats what happens when you speak the truth . again welcome and keep your blue light turned on.

Pictures? Police report? News article?

This is a serious problem on multiple levels, deserves more than a psedonymous forum post.
