I just couldn't provide a link to that article because it is so biased.I imagine a lot of it was spoon fed to Aljazeera by Puna Pono.
I rate Aljazeera about a notch below the National Enquirer.
The current lava flow is not heading toward the plant and in fact it is impossible from its current location.
The pictures are all of the experimental plant that was shut down years ago.

Ask the group if they would support a 100% fossil, wind, geothermal, alternative?
Aren't they implicitly supporting a 100% ( fossil, wind, solar ) alternatiive by refusing geothermal?
Heavily weighted in favor of fossil, of course, because the others are "unreliable".

Careful, I will tell you in advance what I am doing to you.
I am trying to show you that it isn't valid for a group to have the objective of halting supplying electricity without promoting a viable alternative.
To me, Hawaii is a shame. A shame because I read there is more than enough geothermal available to run the entire State from the Big Island.
Linking Hawaii Island to Maui and then Oahu is entirely feasible.
Instead the people of Hawaii State burn tons of fuel. Wind is also only when windy.
Solar during the day.
Waves on the other hand never stop. Hawaii could be 100% free of fossil, wind, solar, or geo using wave energy.
My bet is the group would shout you down.
I bet they will not listen.

Note: The area I read best suited is on Mauna Kea side of the saddle between volcanoes. This would tap heat from. Mauna Loa, yet be away from any potential flow. (Unless Mauna Kea hiccups )

Mr Maise, you continue to make me proud of the human race even through such tough times as these, thank you. Your post about wave energy may or may not be feasible, I have thought this same way you have for years now. I guess growing up surfing had me thinking this way for decades now. So in a sense it has been a dream of mine that I would truly enjoy being part of and or just seeing it become reality. Thanks for the reminders and if I can find out when the next Puna pona alliance meeting is I will surely say hi to Bob for you sir. Have a great day.

The only form of energy I do not want to support is fossil fuel. Even liquidfied natural gas is better.
Watching oil rigs flare off LNG continuously is difficult to watch.

I'd have to know when PGV is drilling, which apparently some of those here with the direct line to PGV aren't willing to share. Despite protests to the contrary, clearly the lines in the sand have been drawn and sides taken in the PGV vs PPA "battle." It's difficult to maintain an informed stance in the middle ground when both sides are purposefully withholding, manipulating, and fabricating information. FFS SMDH
County Council and Corporation Counsel will hopefully make a statement regarding the nighttime drilling ban. PGV is apparently setting up another community meeting to discuss the drilling schedule. Maybe PPA will post an updated newsletter. If I hear anything along these lines, or make that field trip, I'll be sure to share.

That's exactly my point. If the drilling was so intrusive and bothersome, why is it that people called in noise complaints when there was no drilling? Even gypsy and his wife apparently need to be more in touch with their surroundings, having mistaken natural night sounds for drilling that wasn't even happening.
ironyak - It you want to be fair and objective, drive out any day and have a listen. Whether they are drilling or not, come back and report what you really hear coming from the plant in various locations around it.

That's the point - would have to know when PGV is drilling to understand if the noise or silence is related. You could help facilitate this for everyone by sharing what you know about the drilling schedule, but instead want to play "ha ha, gotcha!"
It would be informative to hear from those that live immediately in the area. If PGV is finally using Best Available Control Technologies (BACT), as required in their GRP-2 permit from 15 years ago, perhaps the community's complaints are finally getting through?
Corporation Counsel should help clarify the nighttime drilling ban, but that is unlikely now that there is a pending lawsuit.

ironyak - With all of the shenanigans that the Puna Pono Alliance members have done against PGV, it was quite fair for PGV to turn it around on them. Is the filing of false noise complaints, "pono"?
What happens when police, fire and other emergency teams get sent to PGV due to claims of gas being released - when there were no releases? What if that was a time when you or a loved one needed an ambulance or fire truck and it wasn't available? These clowns have coordinated the mass reporting of false reports before.
The plant makes noise 24x7 whether they are drilling or not. Past drilling may have been noisy and intrusive. This time, with the newer technology rig and other remediation, there just isn't any appreciable noise from the drilling, that is making it past their borders.
Like I asked, drive down and have a listen for yourself, day or night What do you really hear?
