Opinions: urgent care in Keaau?
#1
Does anyone have good or bad things to say about the urgent care place in Keaau? I'm hoping to see my doctor about a condition that started happening today, but if he's too busy am looking at other options. The center in Keaau is nearest to me so that's my first option right now. Otherwise it'll be one of the two places in Hilo (Pahoa will be in the wrong direction for me on Monday).

Thanks in advance.

I've had good experiences there. Can't recall the name of the doctor I met with offhand but it was a pleasant experience getting in and out quickly with a short wait.

Been a while since I've been back, I want to say they went through a renovation recently - is it open?

Best of luck whatever you decide.

Aloha Tom, We went there twice last year, once for a mean dog bite and again for a puncture injury, both occurring after hours. They were able to do xrays, clean the wounds, place sutures, dress wounds, and prescribe meds. Everybody was kind and professional. I'd feel secure in recommending them for after hour emergencies. I have no personal experience with illness treatment there, but I know they're good with wounds.
Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you Jim and Kenney. I don't think my condition will tax them too much, but I need to start treatment quickly before the problem becomes more serious. I'll try them tomorrow - if they're open of course.

A friend used Keaau Urgent Care last week for a staph infection in a wound, and had a very good report on their professionalism & a cleared infection & healed wound, so as of last week they were open & still doing good things with wounds.

I believe my wife drove my daughter there when she hurt her knee and didn't want to try driving. They got right in and everything went just fine.

When I went there weren't any doctors working. I saw a nurse practitioner and she was able to help.

it's been 6 or so years since, maybe the doctors have changed, but unfortunately i wouldn't recommend that place to anyone i know over continuing on elsewhere into Hilo instead. sad to say my experience there involved some of the worst communication along with a lack of basic consideration i have witnessed in a health care setting. sincerely hope that was a fluke or that things have changed, but i won't be taking anyone there again.

Thanks everyone.

My biggest problem was finding the entrance to Urgent Care Keaau. Then I had to answer lots of questions twice over, but think this is normal in the US.

Once the admin was over the care was good and the doctor was very friendly and professional. I would recommend going there if you have no immediately available other options.

for the sake of the community, relieved to hear it sounds like some things may have changed over there from some time back. if so, good news.
