New LFA thread (p.s. Tango doesn't work)
#21
FWIW
I use Sevin (concentrated) and delude it far more than directions say... it looks like watery milk when applied and can kill for many weeks when there is less rain... One $18 bottle (bought at any store ie Home Depot Walmart etc.) lasts me a year and Ive seen far less ELECTRIC Ants (their real name) climbing trees (in lines) and far less of there under rock/log (always small satellite) colonies.....

The first 2 years Sevin seemed to keep them in check, but now I see a big difference, about 75% less infestation and not a single ant in house in over a year (I spray house posts and piers about 3 times a year)
If I see a line of Electric Ants going up a Alexandre Palm, I spray and its very common for me to not see a single ant on that same tree for a month if not more....

my place... Im in HA and have 3 acres, 1 acre is all endangered scarce endemic native species (w/o a single electric ant) and the other 2 are mix of Waiwi and exotics with about 100 palms (2 dozen different type). The 1 acre with the cabin has 90% of all the ants on my prop... in other words my findings is the electric ants really dont invade new areas too fast...even after years

Sevin works on Hibiscus blister mites, aphids, mealy bugs, white fly, rose beetles etc. too
and is super cheap

save our indigenous and endemic Hawaiian Plants... learn about them, grow them, and plant them on your property, ....instead of all that invasive non-native garbage I see in most yards... aloha

I have been treating our lot with Tango for over 6 months.
I can now work around the lot without a shirt on rummaging around through the brush and rubbing up against the trees without getting bit.
Ants are no longer showing up in the house.
It did take a bit longer for the results to show than I had expected, about 3 months instead of the 2 months understood from HAL's info.
Before applying the Tango regimen I would get eaten up by LFA bites while working in the yard.

One thing that happened is that when the LFA's began to disappear other types of ants began to show up around the house and lot.
Those soon disappeared with the continued use of Tango around the lot.
While applying Tango to the lot we also used Amdro bait stations around the house.
We are ant free now.
I will continue using Tango every 1 to 2 month as an ant prophylaxis.
It works!

PLUS, it has very low toxicity for people and pets.
And, the application method should not affect honey bees.

Some other info.....[Smile]
Not my experience, I only have standard issue ants...[Wink]
See Link below....

Instant grits. The moisture in the ants body blows up the grits, and they bring it back to the queen so it kills the whole colony. I was told this year's ago when battling fireants...worked great. I've tried it on smaller ants with some success.

I like this site for misc info....

Good luck......

LFA do not eat solids and grits will not harm them unless they are embedded with oil mixed with insecticide (like Amdro).

That's because they're not. You are dealing with red imported fire ant, Solenopsis invicta. The one we have here is the little fire ant, Wasmannia auropunctata. They are not even closely related to each other and have completely different behaviors. RIFA are ground-nesting ants that build large, single colonies, often in mounds; LFA spend much of their time in trees and have small, interconnected multi-queen nests.

Please stop posting about what you do with them because it's not only worthless, it's actively misleading people who may not know that you're completely full of **** on practically everything you say here.

I got my Provaunt from CPS today. Weather and other distractions permitting, I'll begin my new all-out nuclear assault of Provaunt gel spray and Siesta granules on the LFA tomorrow. Provaunt was about $122 at CPS after taxes and that included a nice separate graduated plastic volume measuring cylinder. I've seen the product as low as $77 including shipping on eBay but I haven't seen it for sale on amazon. If you buy online, check first to make sure it includes the fancy measuring cup. I bought the Siesta on eBay. Siesta was rated by the Hawaii ant lab as the most effective bait granule partly because its continued effectiveness after getting damp/wet.

Where can I buy Siesta granules? And does Provaunt hold up in the Puna rain? Thanks.

The Provaunt gel bait recipe's end product will turn out the same rain resistance as the Tango recipe. Rain resistant, not rain proof. Its best to apply it in the morning when there is no rain expected until the afternoon or later. A four hour window with any of the baits is really what you are looking for. If it gets rained on, go look where you sprayed it and see if its still there. If it is, you're fine.

I bought my Siesta on eBay. You could call BEI and CPS to see if they sell it.

The Hawaii Ant Lab bait reviews are here but was written before Provaunt: http://www.littlefireants.com/lfa%20fact...et%202.pdf

I applied Siesta and Provaunt this morning. The LFA are all over the Siesta and there is an LFA superhighway of ants going to and from the Siesta. They seem a lot more excited about the Siesta than they ever were Amdro or Firestrike.

They seem to be going out of their way to avoid the Provaunt bait. But then again, that is the same experience I had with Tango, though sometimes they seemed to have more interest in it after it sat around for a while.
