ignore button
#1
Moderator - just curious if this forum has an ignore button. I have seen some boards that do and you can click ignore next to a poster that you prefer not to read post from. Then any post made by that person do not even show up. Would it be hard to add this feature?

This board has always been very open minded but lately it has just gotten really negative due to post from one person. I especially do not like reading some of the mean spirted post being made by a particular person. And since I respect everyone's right to free speech I wouldn't want to see the person banned because of their attitudes and lack of aloha. That certainly isn't the spirt of aloha or Puna. Puna is about to each his/her own. Aloha is about love for everyone and respect for our differences.

I feel like I am about to explode after reading a recent post, which is my own problem. I was just hoping there would be an ignore feature so that anyone that didn't want to read post by a particular person wouldn't have to.

Puna girl, I think you just like reason to complain. Let your hair down and loosen up. Take a deep breathe or an exlax. Your all backed up and your cranky. Easy girl! Whoooooaaa horsey! Slow down take deep breathe enjoy life its short. Forget the little things that upset you. Is it worth the excess stress?

Hi Punagirl,

I am the moderator and I have been out of town a few days. I will look into this and make a decision soon. I don't really know what a ignore button might be. I am not a web master. Back to this sugject soon. I guess I've been hoping that things will find an even keel. It is looking unlikely.

Good idea Punagirl
Sure, it is easy to choose not to read a particular thread, but little choice when someone posts obnoxiously in reply to someone else, especially if it's a thread you're interested in, minus the inappropriate replies. I like this forum very much and hope the moderators can maintain the aloha spirit most enjoy here.

I'm a really open minded person and I try to see the humanity in people and the reasoning behind some actions. The isolation of being in the "jungle" without social contacts tends to distort the thinking process. Certain individuals in this world and on this forum need professional help and possibly medication. In addition, any monkey with a $1000 dollars can buy a computer and click clack away at the key board. This being said, you can clearly see that "people" are using this forum as a substitute for human contact and are creating a fantasy world in which to operate. For example, if you were to walk down a street and see a homeless person ranting and raving, would you stop to find out what exactly "he" was saying and then be concerned with it? This forum is a captive audience for the rantings of individuals who would be ignored by society at large...TAKE YOUR MED'S...AND IF YOU DONT HAVE MED'S...GO GET A SCRIPT FOR SOME YOU NEED THEM !!!

I agree some people need to take their meds for sure. The fact that previous poster spends alot time on this forum also tells me perhaps that he is socially depleted. Its like the pot calling the kettle black huh?
One of the major problems in this world is that society has been trained to be policed so often that its everyday routine to most. The freedoms in this country that were fought for by millions of people throughout the years has seemingly gone down the tube!
One of the things I cherish so much is when a person is very real. Unafraid to say whats on his or her mind. To be expressive and to be open and honest. People these days are afraid. Afraid of truth, afraid of being open and honest. We have become a police state. Our freedoms have slowly been taken away from us and many do not realize how intense it has gotten. If one cannot be open and honest on a forum and add a little humor now and again I truly feel that its just nother form of restrictions put upon us. I am reasonably sure its the religious sector on here that is so bothered by my innocent postings. These are the screw everybody all week long people and go to church on Sunday nd confess so that on monday they can go back on screwing everyone again.Personally I have had several people who like my postings and have encouraged me to continue. Its the constipated posters that need the exlax to find relief that are complaining. Im a decent guy actually with good values and I just happen to be someone who is open hearted, open minded. Now if the complainers have a problen with me do not run and cry to webmaster, tune out!No one is forcing you to read my threads. Thats a copout to say you cannot help but read my stuff! Give me a break already! Thats bogus.
As far as having no life>? Im sure I have more than many on here who post more than I do and seemingly spend alot more time on here than getting out and enjoying the reason why they moved to Hawaii. HYPOCRITICAL statements made against me here. Talk to my supporters.

This is not a question of freedom, it is a question of manners. Rude insults are not good spirited humor and belong elsewhere. When they are in ones own thread.... I can just not read the thread. When they appear in my thread or a friends thread, they are a problem that needs to be eliminated somehow. I agree an IGNORE option could be very useful if it can be adapted to this forum.

I agree on the ignore as you in particular will be first on my list no doubt. Problem is pislamont that you require being in spotlight on this forum. You do not like competition. You moved to hawaii now your the expert on all things hawaii and excercise the typical TAKEOVER attitude that many mainlanders posess that is not wanted here in hawaii. Yes just IGNORE me and you may have a good nights sleep for christs sake!

All I can say is that the value of this forum is going to be determined by the quality of the content. Lurkers and would-be contributors or even folks looking for help will eventually shy away if this turns into the wild west.

I've learned to quickly click Back to view other threads or to move to other forums altogether when I come across discussions that are nonsense or emotional, often irrational rants.

I agree that some filter to allow selective viewing of posts or even the ability to organize the topics into more distinct categories might help us quickly find helpful info; locate questions that need responses; or just opinions that might be entertaining to read after a long day at work.

Freedom of expression is fine but it would be great to filter out content that one might find aggravating so that we can easily shut the door and not listen.

Features that might help:
View posts by member
Sort posts by most current first
Hide posts/responses by member
Block posts by member
Private discussion topics

Why not hire a vigilante group and hang everyone that does not see things your way. Understand my logic? I spoke with moderator and I agree things on here are getting ugly but I refuse to take all blame just because I call the ace of spades black! Those who especially need to lighten up are the very ones that do all the complaining. Its very simple..just do not read the posts from aanyone you do not care to associate with. Its that easy! Im cooling my jets but the responsibility is not all on my back just to note. I do not want to her one negative comment from anyone on this forum. You do not have to agree with what I have to say but keep your negativity to yourselves ior make yourself a stiff drink but DONT thread on me! I thank you!
